While the fine folk in the Ancient Coins forum are helping me sort through a collection my father left me, I figured I'd drop in here and see if maybe one of you could help me identify (or point me to where I can get it identified) a small artifact tucked away in the corner of an ancient coin box he left me.

Is it tiny? It could be a souvenier.

Is there anything stamped or etched on the bottom?

If you think it's ancient, you could try getting in touch with a university, or a museum, or try hyperography.com -- they might have archaeologists.....

Anyway, a little more information would be helpful -- how big is it? What do you think it's made out of?

It looks like a tiny little vase, but it could be a really old perfume bottle missing its stopper.

Nothing that I can see etched or stamped on either side. There's a hole going through the middle.

It's about 3 inches tall, and 1 inch wide at its base.

As far as the composition goes, I couldn't begin to guess.

It looks cast iron. Very interesting thing. Only thing I think of is antique candle holder/incense burner?

The object which appears to be made of bronze and looks to have been buried in the ground from a very long time. The design is similar to small flower vases of the Roman empire. I believe this is from that era.
