Ausjack.
I could be wrong, but I think you just got a teller who did not want to help you and blaming "the government" was an easy excuse.
I regularly change notes for coins without showing any form of ID and have never been told anything like that.
I thought the whole point of laundering money was to take ill gotten gains and somehow try to show that it came from a legitimate source. I can not see how changing notes for coins (with or without id) would be useful to launder money.
edit: fixed a few typos

This site used to be my oasis from all the one eyed party political nonsense.

I would like to say though Ausjack that your claim about the anti-laundering laws is completely untrue, or the teller was having a lend of you.

Over the past 3 weeks I have been getting $20 - $30 of coin each day from the Banks and I have not once been asked for ID.

I've been asked for ID and/or a contact number on and off for years. It depends on the bank you go too! Westpac and NAB seem to be the main ones in my area.

STEVO..ya breakin me heart mate. I wish I could join ya but due to meds I haven't had a drink in 8 years and I still miss it '~' BUT I'll gladly watch ya.

NOW to the others..1. I was just passing the message(typical of oz, shoot the messanger LOL). 2. Look up austrac..no no not ausjack..austrac (australian tranaction reports and analysis centre, I didn't know they existed) and see if you can work any of it out but it does mention KYC..no no not KFC KYC (know your customer) first I've heard or seen any of this bull but after the 911 fiasco everything changed..so don't know if that helps.

Now about the "political non sence" 1. freedom of speach mate or lack there of in this country now makes it a great place to live..NOT. 2.how are people ever meant to find out what's going on or what our pollies are doing around us if we can't talk about these things ('cause you can't trust the media to get the truth out any more as the gov is putting the muzzel on them too). No wonder the countries in the state it's in, and I suppose you buy into all this gov bull where they play you like a puppet and feed off your paranoia. 3. I have made no mention of ANY political party, I have made reference to a person that says that they're there for us but their action say otherwise..I can't see the good sorry. And I bag all gov for any stupid thing they say or do 'cause I have OUR interestes at heart, who's do you have?

Ausjack you really are a character . It helps brighten up the place.

1. Anti money laundering has been around for years. I got training on it when I was a Bank teller in the 80s. Back then it applied to cash transactions over $10,000. It doesn't apply to $25 worth of coin. The teller was having a lend of you.

2. I'm not infringing anyone's freedom of speech. I'm merely pointing out that this is a coin site.

3. It is simply not practical to have specific coin years taken out of circulation. I visited the RAM recently and there was no sign of a "noodle room" where workers checked each coin to see what year it was minted.

No offence Ausjack but I find some of your conspiracy theories pretty way out.

Ausjack cobba, I now have been dry for 5 months (by dr orders not by choice!) and looks like I will be stayin' that way for the foreseeable future - so we will both have to watch someone else but happy to yard next time I am in Grafton - I do get up that way on occasion.

I got home from hospital late yesterday. One of the side effects of the meds I am on is very little sleep - average is around 20mins a night at present. They tried some heavy sleeping tabs in hospital and they didn't work - I was even put under for one of the procedures and I woke I right in the middle! I came out into recovery and there were people there who had been in recovery for over an hour and they still could not keep there eyes open - one poor dear fell asleep drinking a cup or water and poured it all over herself and still didn't wake up - I had to tell the nurse to help her - anyway, I came out of the OR wide away and bright as a button... so here I am after 20mins sleep back on the net... what a sad sad excuse I am... anyway, I digress...

I just wanted to say a big thanks to my CCF family for the kind words and wishes and the comments that made me smile, and the encouragement to raid the cashiers desk! It helped a lot. Thanks all, this really is a family!

ps. because it was Friday and I was going home I got bold and told the cashier I needed to stock up for the vending machine raids over the weekend (small fib, sorry)... I completely cleaned them out! they even gave me some 50c rolls! (well, not gave, I did hand over paper for them!)

And remember, wherever you are, YOU CAN NOODLE!
