Most ancient collectors have dealt with him at one point or another if you use ebay. I have had good luck with my purchases from him, but I have heard others have not been so lucky. It truly is a gamble at the end of the day, though. That's what makes it so fun!

I think I still could probably make out like a bandit even on late Roman coins. Since there are so many coins to fill in my collection, even at one emperor or person each.

I received these coins today, and after a cursory check, feel most will probably be unattributable. But we will see. I have them all in olive oil for now and will take them out in a couple of days to see how things are progressing. I'm not real hopeful though.

I took one coin out of the oil and wiped it with a soft cloth. The coin is shiny as a new penny. Hmmmm. This has all the makings of coins being cleaned, checked and re-dirtied for sale. I'm so disgusted I left the rest of the coins soaking. I'll bet I find the same on most if not all of the coins. The coin I cleaned had possibilities. Four standards on the reverse and a right facing bust on the obverse, but no legible legend on either side. AND, no patina!

the last one looks like it could be a galley with soldiers bearing standards reverse.

well I would have to look around a bit to figure out what the first and third are but the middle looks like armor, the rest I have no idea for now but I have to head to work soon.

It looks like an old style camping coffee pot to me.

Quote: I did. Why? I just happened to be looking at some of his/her coins when this thread was updated and put 2+2 together. Some of the single coins they offer for sale are really nice but look recently cleaned / part cleaned, not that thats a problem. I guess its their supplier who we need to be looking for! Here is some help with the second coin: http://coinproject.com/global_searc...ubmit=submitNot sure any of the ones here are a 'bingo' though!

Coin #1 rev. I think is 'serpent rising from altar or coiled above altar'. Haven't figured out the legend yet, definitely Greek.
#2 rev is 'bunch of grapes'. Legend is pretty much all there.
#3 not sure, but I know I've seen that rev. before Perhaps an apple. If I run across it again I'll let you know.
Regards
