my recommendation is educating yourselfbefore buying one, lots of fakes out there, learn about the real ones AND the fakes and you will lessen your chances of ending up with a dollar sized piece of scrap metal

Very cool coin muddler does that make that coin more valuable or were errors back then more common?

I would use this 1875 s/cc as a down payment on a proof.

This was an ebay purchase from a quality seller that noted the cleaning but did not note the variety back in 2005.

MikeBrax,

The s/cc is the most noted variety listed for Trade dollars. It is just a small "c" to the right of the mint mark. From what I have read the San Francisco mint received a "cc" die that they doctored to become an "s" die. The coin has an unfortunate bag mark very near the ghost "c" but the die cracks running down from America are also a give away. It lists 3 or 4 times the value of a regular 1875 s. I have seen copies of 1875 s but not of this variety.
