Make that 16: the 13 EU member states that have the euro, plus the three "attached" countries (MC, SM, VA). And I know several collectors who simply ignore the latter three. San Marino euros do show up in circulation but very rarely; Monaco hardly ever; and the Vatican does not have any circulation coins in the literal sense of the word ... Mint marks and mintmaster signs I ignore; but for example, when Finland introduced the new types with the tiny "FI" country code this year ... in my opinion, that counts as a new type. So I must have them, hehe. Christian

Right Chrisild, they are 16, my mistake, anyway between 2007 and 2008 all countries but Slovenia will have to use the new common face, that means new types. Really Monaco should have new common face starting w/ proof 2006.

Ha, those darn rotten Monegasques. The new common sides were to be introduced in either 2007 or 2008 as you wrote. So what did they do? Issue a 2006 set with new national sides but the "old" common sides ... and, surprise, that set is awfully expensive since next year's set will again be different due to the new common sides. Got an offer from a dealer - 280. Which is a fair price in the sense that others charge the same or more, but way too much for me. Christian

To me it is interesting all the changes and new countries. I collect euro unc circ coins for every country for every year. I am 66% of the way there. It is now becoming a challange as a lot of the ones I am after are some of the tougher items (and more expensive). I have a few vatican sets and got my first Monaco set only a week ago. Will have slovinia set in a few weeks.
If there are any euro swappers out there give me an email...hopefully we can help ech other!!!

I just want to keep up with each new country and an unc. set the first year they are issued if possible. Also trying to grab all the commemorative $2 coins when they are issued and still trading for unc. silver commemoratives. Thanks to a great bunch of European collectors I manage to snag a few every year and have a very nice collection going.

Just a correction on a my previous post: I finally bought a proof set of Monaco 2006 and common faces are still the old one. They are in the rule.

Well, they circulate in Euroland, not in the entire EU. Yes, all eight denominations now issued in Slovenia were and are made for circulation. How many of them will be encountered "in the wild" in other countries remains to be seen. The lower value denomination pieces do not get around that much anyway: Here in NW, Germany, I hardly ever get "copper" coins from, say, Portugal, Ireland or Greece. The Nordic Gold coins, and particularly the 1 and 2 pieces apparently travel more easily ...
Christian
Yeah specially 1 and 2 cents but 5 cents if other place have a amusement place where they put coin in the slot to move a bulk of coin to the edge a snudge or nudge machine from 5,20,cents 1e and 2E mostly in bay area.
I saw a Slovenia coin here in ireland 2E my inlaw got it from circulation and decided to keep it for I'm having a chat with him about coin collectng.

Well Bigfella you did not beat me by much as my Slovenian coins are enroute from Europe as I write this post!!! As a member of the Knights of the Coin Table I am eagerly awaiting Lithuania and the Knights on Horseback if and when they are finally released!
Russo_Rubino it is VERY good to see someone from Italy posting with us. At this time it is tough to get Italian coinage, especially silver commemoratives, here in the states. I missed getting an absolutely beautiful commemorative, if memory serves me correct, in 2003. The Italian silver commemoratives seem to hold their value very well and increase rapidly so we collectors from other areas in the world MUST act rapidly or get left out!!! Good to have you with us here at CC!

Right - in or after 2010. Next year Cyprus and Malta are likely to join (the Council will decide about that in July, I think), in 2009 Slovakia maybe. No horses there ... and even Monaco does not have the knight any more. quote: The Italian silver commemoratives seem to hold their value very well and increase rapidly so we collectors from other areas in the world MUST act rapidly or get left out!!!
Well, this year for example there will be four 5 collector coins, three 10 pieces, a few gold issues, and maybe others I don't know of yet. Problem with those is, none can be had at face value; the silver issues cost 35 or 40. The only actual commemorative coin, in the EU sense, that Italy issues this year can be had at face value (2) but is not a silver piece. Christian

Sorry I beat you...that is twice in a week if you also include the Koalas.
BTW all the euro collectors...I have some spares in both unc and circ if anyone wants to swap coins. I only collect unc coins however.

I try to target those silver euro commemoratives that will take your breath away!!! Many are low mintage, well designed, very eye appealling and full of history! If they meet those few requirements they are a must have regardless of costs! By the same token I have bought Belarus silvers that meet the same requirements in my mind. Absolutely beautiful!

Very true! France will issue quite a few low mintage (3000-5000) silver coins in 2007. I'll be ready! An upcoming 1/4 euro will feature LaFayette, hero of the American revolution, crossing the ocean in 1777 to join the American army. It will also feature the French and American flags.

Well that sounds like another MUST HAVE coming out of France. Only problem I NOW have with France is the fact they sell to a U.S. dealer and I can't order direct from the Mint like I used to? I don't understand why they made the switch but in small mintages, if you can't order from the mint and they sell out, the dealers here then have you at their mercy with ridiculous prices. I don't mind paying a premium but I do have my limits!
