Wow, nice tokens everybody. I think I need me some Any way to tell a genuine CWT from a keepsake that may have been sold at a museum? Were they all made of copper?

No, they weren't all made of copper. Some were made out of brass, white metal, bronze, and probably many more different metals...

Here's one I purchased today... Charles Kolb NJ Restaurant @ R3... After using my E-Bay Bucks for last quarter I only ended up paying $15.50 for it. After a Verdi Care treatment, I'm hoping the verdigris will come off and will mellow the irregular toning a bit

Why did so many have Indians on them?

I'd guess that so many had indians because the Indian Head cent was the cent being minted (and hoarded) during the civil war. They probably favored them looking like an actual coin. JMO

. Since most were an equivelent of one cent, the comparison towards the Indian Head cent seems to be most logical

Not a particularly rare CWT with a rarity of R2, but I found the strike along with the curious 85 degree counter-clockwise die rotation to be a draw for this one. NGC has graded a total of 11 of this token -- 10 graded with the Brown (BN) color designation and a single example graded MS63RB . This is the single highest graded by NGC at MS65BN, with two examples graded MS64BN. I was happy to add this to my very small collection of CWTs.

Below are two sleepers that I recently acquired. The dealer offering them didn't do them justice with their photographs. When they arrived I was pleasantly surprised: Thanks, Cheetah

Here is my latest CWT acqusition. A rather hard to come by zinc composition store card. NGC says it suffers from environmental damage, given that it is zinc and 150 years old that seems somwhat redundant. Anyway I was pleased to pick this one up. It is an R-9. [/URL]
