Upgrading Your Canadian Coin To The Next Level Point?

I think as long as you open your album and the coins smile at you and there isn't "one nasty" coin that keeps catching your eye, then => you're good!

... however glenzy1, you are in a totally different world than "most" of us => you really do already probably have the nicest Canadian quarter collection known to man, so whenever you see an MS70 quarter, you probably panic and think that somebody will buy it and have a nicer coin than you in that one year! ... geesh, that must be very stressful and a bit horrible?

... just kidding => I've seen your list of coins and no matter what happens, you should take a deep-breath and realize that you rock and your coin-collection will always be awesome and worth Huge-coin! .... it is EPIC!

However, I am always a bit cautious whenever the descriptions enter the MS-zone ... ummm, because it is totally up to the grader whether it's an MS-60, or whether it's an MS-65 etc, etc ... and yes, the price seems to go-up, expontentially! (so it becomes a bit of a figure-skater rating system, where you're never sure if those really high-marks are actually good or whether they are fudgy, ya know?) ... that's why I end-up being pretty satisfied with my EF and/or my AU coins ... they're certainle good enough => and at that point the coins already rock and they look great!

==> regardless, I seem to have totally moved-on and I've totally turned my back on my wonderful quarters ... for I've thrown myself into researching and collecting ancients! .... I know, brutal, eh? ... anyway ...

=> yah, I know zero about them, so it is is super refreshing and brand new ... so if I was you, I would not stress => I'd try to relax and maybe you should change gears and try something new!

I am still too new to the hobby to try and better my collection. I am too busy trying to fill holes, trying to get one example of each cicrulation silver coin. I have been lucky enough to come across some doubles its fun to try and pick the better one. Any ms coins I look at are soo expensive I cant justify it just yet. I did buy a few proof sets to start and I am very pleased with those, made the bold decision to cut them out and put them in my album. Pretty confident I got some MS coins at a decent price but that was only for 65,64, and 63.

I'd rather skip MS-64 altogether. In MS grades,I find MS-63, 65, 66, and 67 the only grades that justify their cost/value ratio.

Example? An AU coin, particularly a 55 or 58, will quite possibly look better than an MS-60, maybe an MS-62. I'm as guilty as anybody of playing the numbers game, but blind numerical upgrades are not really what I'd consider a good strategy.

That said, would I upgrade from a 64 (if I had one) to a 65 if the 65 was missing the one little field nick that forever tormented me like a thorn stuck in my long johns? Yes, I probably would :)

Glenn from your posts you have an amazing collection , this is a question more suited for Doctor Phill. No offence but as some others have pointed out some would like to complete a series ,at the lowest cost to the collector.
