Quote: A driver looked at the odometer and noticed that it showed a symmetric number, 15951. Wow, he thought, that doesn't happen often!
He continued on with a constant speed, and exactly in two hours glanced at the odometer again. To his amazement it showed a symmetric number again.
What was the speed of the car?
I know folks have already said 55 MPG but having driven in Germany that would be a residential speed limit. So my answer is 105MPG or roughly 169KMH. Autobahn baby, autobahn

Quote: How about 28 light bulbs? Nope! Quote: ... but having driven in Germany ... In Germany I'd expect odometers display kms rather than miles. Yes, this problem theoretically has infinitely many solutions but we'll stay within reason.

T. => those same 3 cats that killed 3 rats in 3 minutes "should" be able to keep-up their pace provided there are still the samee distribution of rats in the dojo!
3cats = 3 rats in 3 minutes = (1 rat/per minute)
so
3 cats = 9 rats in 9 minutes (still hummin' at a (1 rat/ per minute)
Is there a unit for rat/min ...... is that a kilorat?

Quote: In a long hallway there are 100 lightbulbs in a row with draw-strings for a switch. All lights are initially off. The first person goes through and pulls every draw-string (thus turning all the lights on). The second person goes through and pulls every second string, i.e. #2, #4, #6, etc...(thus turning some off) The third person goes through and pulls on every third cord, and so on ... The last, 100th person, goes through and pulls on the 100th string.
Which lightbulbs will stay on?
1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81 & 100

Quote: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81 & 100 is correct. Did you figure it out "analytically" or did (drew) an experiment?

Quote: Did you figure it out "analytically" or did (drew) an experiment? It was harder because I was driving at 105mph whilst chasing some silly cats that were killing rats that were all wearing white hats. It was strange...

Quote: Q. What sign should be placed between 2 and 3 to get a number greater than 2 but less than 3?
is it the > (greater than) sign ? Quote: R. There are five apples in the basket. How to divide them between five kids so that each kid would get an apple, and one apple would still be in the basket?
Each kid gets an apple, but one of the kids has the basket too with the apple inside. Quote: S. In each of the four corners of the room there's a cat, across from each cat there are three cats, on a tail of each cat there sits a cat. How many cats are in the room? 10 cats in the room ?

Cajunlady, you got R-rated question right. You are good at distributing apples!
