One of my staff told me about the mule three years ago. I went home and found one that night in my change. Then three days later I got another in my change at the golf club. It took a couple of years to find the third. Shopkeepers look at me very strangely as I always pour over my change and always ask for dolar coins instead of twos. But it paid off.

Well, obviously it was just ment to be,good onya

As promised, checked out the coin shop in the Melbourne CBD selling the 1954 Royal Visit Commemorative (as per the earlier email of this thread).

It is Peter Strich Stamps and Coins in Collins Street.
There is an "Aussie Silver" box where examples are mounted in 2x2 coin holders and sell for $15 - 20% discount. So $12.
Lots of Florins also in this box

They appear to be in similar condition as my coin, shown in the earlier part of this thread.

Maybe worth checking out ?.

If they are as good as yours, I wouldn't mind a few.
I had a look on his web site and couldn't see any listed
I emailed him , see what happens

Just to be able to get a high quality coin is a bargain enough for me
50:50 is good odds

that's one angry looking bird. I like the 'scars' on the beak, they really give the design some character.

I recon it looks like it is grinning, while waiting for a truck to provide it with some road kill
I see heaps of these huge birds on the side of the road when I travel to the gold fields for work

Hi trout. I am glad that Peter provided quality coins to you. From my experience I have found that Peter has a nice variety of coins. I think that his prices are quite good, compared to other coin dealers around Melbourne .

I hope his "Aussie silver" 1954 Royal Visit Commemorative Florins will live up to your expectations

Due to the nature of my work {I work in areas where there is a lot of gold laying about) It would be most inappropriate of me to collect gold nuggets.
I have never bought any.
