Do a forum search, this has been discussed MANY times over. The bottomline, there is no such thing, almost ALL wheats have been picked though at one time or another.....usually multiple times.

with BadThad on this one...

That being said, I've had some really good luck buying 1000-count bags of wheats from my local dealer. I doubt anyone would have my kind of luck buying bags from e-bay, or through a magazine advert though.

My local dealer sells me 1000 count bags for $45 + tax. I realize that the bags I buy have been searched. I also realize that some of the "gems" I tend to find have probably been "salted" into the mixture and I accept this fact when I buy my bags.

I also realize that my local dealer can't possibly afford to employ someone to sort through thousands of wheats the same way that I sort through them.

They buy wheats from the public at $.02 per...and they sell them at $.045. They've doubled their profit without ever looking at them. Here in California, minimum wage is close to $10 per hour. The folks they hire to search through the wheats have been taught to look for the "key-dates". Separating the wheats from the chaff so-to-speak... I've learned that there is still some "worth" to some of the things found in the "chaff".

My local dealer buys Wheats at .02 and sells (individually) for .07 each. In the bin there I have found many 09VDB's (one BU) a 24d, a 17 DDO in Good, a 13s in Fine (last week) and an unbelievable 26d that came back MS63BN, sharp and fully struck. I have to admit that my local dealer is two people: a woman who is very pleasant to deal with, knows her stuff, but would never have the time to go through the Wheat cent bin, and the owner, who is unpleasant, obnoxious, and couldn't care less about anything in the store that isn't either bulk PM or something worth $100 or more. Always goodies to be found in the Wheats there.

Folks can say what they wanna. I picked up 20 bags of unsearched wheats this past summer. I found a lot of goodies. The 26-s came back ms-64 PLUS and I sold it on ebay for 2600.00. Most bags have probably been searched but mine were not. They came out of an armored car service.

I have had pretty good luck in getting my moneys worth out of "unsearched" bags. Two years ago I was given one bag as a Christmas gift and found some really nice coins including a 22-D & 24-D. They were not mint state but great finds anyways. Three months ago I bought two "unsearched sealed bank bags of wheats with 500 in each for $87. I know it was too much money, but it gave me something to do that I actually like doing. Anyway, I found a lot of mint states most of which were BN's. The short of it out of 1000 coins I found about 25 that were worth $25+. I got more then my monies worth

Oh and as far as being unsearched and in a bank sealed bag....there was a 1968 in one of the bags.

OK I've searched my ledger and these are the ones that made it into my collection

X-mas 2010:
1924-d F-15 $62

Feb 2012:
1911 MS64RB $50
1913-D AU58 $92
1915-S XF45 $110
1918 MS64RB $140
1919-D AU50 $24
1931-D XF40 $25
1953-S MS67RD $375

Now I know it sounds crazy that someone didn't pick these out, but they did not and yes I self graded, but I am within 1 or 2 grades and usually on the mark with my grading. I use PCGS grading standards
