You don't have to be rich to enjoy the hobby. Wether you're playing with $50, $500, or $5,000, you use the same amount over and over for your coin purchase. I will admit tho, having a union job really does help.

First and this is important: I'm "retired" so I have time.
Second- I usually don't do more than $10.00 a day on cents

The latter part of each week is spent on half dollar boxes and maybe an occasional box of dimes or nickels.

Third and most important, I really enjoy what I'm doing, it's a great hobby and I'm also trying to make money finding silver/and or varieties/error's with coins etc.

Sure beats working at any fast food place/retail store/grocery store etc part-time to supplement my income!

I don't know what your situation is regarding work/free time etc but maybe this might be helpful.

I would suggest starting slow with cents like I do- no more than $10.00 a day, then try and buy maybe a few boxes of cents a week and see how that goes.

As you get more comfortable with it then maybe you could increase your time/capital etc.

Good luck hunting!

You put "how do I spend less time roll hunting?" its obvious you arent a coin collector....because thats part of the hobby and its fun...so if you arent having fun, dont collect coins!

greenprint,

I use to buy box after box, I got burned out looking threw thousands of coin's, re rolling them, then my Credit Union got a counter , very helpful.
But now my checker friends let me know when they see an old style coin wraps,I've got original rolls of cents, nickles.
Get a good loup, buy $5 of each, no time you'll find some cool coin's, good luck..

I sort 3 rolls of pennies a day, takes about 10 minutes. Anyone has time for that. No rule that says you have to do $100/week!

green if you feel its not "fun" then theres no reason to start trying as you say if you feel its better for you to just buy the cents outright without searching then this whole topic is meaningless and do what you feel is right. but its really not as complicated as youre making it, try it for awhile get a box of cents. In this case in a way you can try before you buy ( just return everything you dont want )

It's the thrill of the hunt. I personally hunt for date and mm. sometimes its a few rolls a day or a box here and there. It's a hobby that you can do at your own pace that you get out what you put in, whether its your time or money. We all collect for different reasons, I fill dansco albums and I also fill rolls for year and mm for my personal collection. my girlfriend has even gotten into it. She made the remark that its litterally history in your hands.
