lady paid with a 1864 US Indian( native )head penny last week. This is the oldest coin I have ever gotten from circulation. No pics,I already had one so I gave it to a coworker who is just developing an interest in the hobby. He was very taken with the fact that it was minted during the civil war.

Amoncion I keep all 1981 and older nickels because of the nickel content. @1967canadapenny, the steel cent was in a roll of dimes that is the second one I have found and I am quite far from the border.

I'll keep that in mind, still not familiar with metal contents, I know some older coins have silver and stuff but I'm sure I'll learn on here lol

I hit the penny jackpot today!! My bank lady called and told me a guy had brought it what looked to be old pennies and asked if I wanted them. I went right down and got $20 in pennies, $30 in quarters, $20 in dimes... This is what I found. 1 silver quarter, 2 silver dimes(1CDN,1US), 1950 silver Mozambique coin. And lots of old pennies 1937-2 1938-3 1939-2 1940-11 1941-12 1942-7 1943-25 1944-15 1945-10 1946-8 1947-11 1948-6 1949-12 1950-14 1951-14 1952-18 1953-11 1954-4 1955-11 1956-7 1957-20 1958-14 1959-18 Wheat Pennies-30 with the oldest a 1919s I still have not checked for varieties. I called to ask if they had any more from the same guy. She thinks the other teller has 10 more rolls of pennies. I'll be picking them up in the morning. Oh ya. I also found a 1974 penny I believe is on a foreign planchet. I will post that soon in the error section. *****UPDATE***** No rare 1955 or 1948 but 3 of my 1949 point to the large denticle.

RoyalSilver Thanks. Some of the pennies are a little gunky and need a quick rinse but I thought it was a good haul. Can't wait to see the rest I'm picking up in the morning.

I found a 1943 steel in a penny roll a few weeks ago. The oldest canadian penny in that roll (which also had four other wheats including a 1913! ) was a 1957 . I put this in here because, while not a Canadian coin, I found it in Canadian circulation and it is unusual.
