So the State Quarter series got better over the years (Arizona, Nevada much better than Rhode Island, Conn.). The ATB series took off from there. Ironically, the ATB series has a smaller design area, but had generated superior designs.

There are some really gorgeous single scene designs in the 50 State Quarters that rivals anything seen in the ATBQs. North Carolina, Virginia, New Jersey, Maine, Utah are all well chosen representatives of the state shown. Comparing quarters created under a historical mandate versus a pictorial composition isn't quite fair, however.

jbuck, Thanks :) Now I can my own poll :P And it looks like everyone agrees that ATB Quarters are better in look and design.

Definitely ATB. At least they learned from their mistakes and are making nicer looking coins now. I wish they would improve the other stale designs.
