When I take my unwanted coins from CRH to the bank with a coin counter, I always ask the lady what they got for rejects. I love getting Euro coins or UK coins as I should be taking a holiday there in the fall. Picked up €15 and £25 for nothing so far..

I buy bags of half dollars from my local bank. They come off their own machine in the lobby. So far, one English farthing from about 1725, and two USA large cents from the 1840's.

First time I told my nephew about pre 1982 coppers he say's "I have some penny's lets look through them" He probably had maybe 200 cents in a jar, recently acquired, and this was last summer. We dump them on the table and a 1892 IHC is staring me in the face. "You have got to be kidding me" is all I could say

Several years ago my grandfather was turning over ground in front of a city apt to put some new sod down. At dusk, he went in, and I just took a look at the dirt piles... Bent down to find a quarter, and surprise surprise, an unearthed 1956 silver quarter Just recently I dug through a penny box at a cashier, saw a wheat on the bottom, and took it out, thinking "Probably a 40." However, I turned it over, and it turns out to be a 1918-D. 3rd oldest wheat I have!

When I was a teenager my dad and I got into metal detecting and one of the more "awesome" finds was when we went back to where I went to elementary school to checkout the playground. We had been before and had only found a bunch of corroded Lincolns and other junk, but this time (which I think was one of the last times we went) we went back over an area underneath a set of monkey bars. Much to our surprise we pulled up a common date 1940s Merc dime, that looked brand new! To think how much I had played on that playground as a kid and that little piece of silver was underneath me all the time!

This isn't so much as an odd place, but I'll tell it anyway. I found two 1952-D wheat cents in THE SAME ROLL a few weeks ago. What are the odds of that?

Long time lurker jumping in.... One day at work I busted open a roll of dimes and they were all mercs! They were all from the 20's with a 1921D in the mix. Not the best condition but I'll take it!

I managed a coffee shop for several years and had a customer of mine pay for her espresso with a 1986 Silver Eagle dollar. Needless to say I snagged that one out of the drawer. I was fortunate enough to be able to find a fair amount of silver through the years in the tills.

This isn't necessarily an awesome coin, but I found a euro cent in the safe on my cousin's hotel room.

When I was a manager at my local theater in Colorado, I used to be the last one out the door every night. So, whenever friday would roll around, my routine was... let the last employee out, grab a flashlight and search every theater row (especially the teen films) and average $15 to $20 in bills and change, then I would sit down and sort through the change order. I wasn't able to roll search but I would go through EVERY $1 and $5, thousands of dollars, and pull star notes. My best find from there was a circ $1 note with the number 00000706, some $100, $50, $20 star notes and a few silver dimes from the concession drawers.
Mt personal favorite was when I was in third grade, we were taking money for a field trip or something and when I put my quarter in with the rest of them, I saw a 1949 quarter just sitting there. Being the honest young one I was, I didn't take it but I asked my mom that night if she could come with me to school the next day and see if my teacher would trade it for a newer quarter. She did. I still have that quarter and will never get rid of it.
