Here's a unique "counterstamp". A take on the popular Kennedy-Lincoln cent.

Here's the fairly common Lincoln Counterstamp nicknamed the "moon penny" by some...From the Apollo 11 mission.

Ford Motors old school counterstamp. Not pretty. I can picture these running through a machine stamping one after another.

This as yet unattributed counterstamp has long puzzled collectors. It's the first, U.S. merchant countermark, listed (alphabetically) by Brunk (B# A-1). In 2003, Brunk recorded 6 specimens on 1828 Half Cents and 2 more on undated Half Cents. There are likely more specimens to be counted. These obviously had a specific use and most likely were stamped during the Hard Times era, 1832-44. The large "A" counterstamp on the obverse and "H" on the reverse offer no real clue as to the issuer. However, the eagle pictorial is a major clue. It strongly suggests that the issuer was a silversmith, gunsmith or other fine craftsman who worked in a metal trade. If these marks can someday be matched to those on a product, a firearm or piece if silverware, the attribution can be solved.
