 18 mm. CONSTANTINOPOLI Helmeted bust of Constantinople left with imperial mantle and holding scepter /Victory with spread wings left, with foot on prow (for a naval victory) and holding scepter and resting left hand on shield. SMALB for Alexandria. RIC 64, struck 333-337. Among all the Roman coin types, this one is one of the least expensive in nice condition. Also, it is very historical, commemorating the foundation of Constantinople which changed the Roman world for a thousand years. The type comes from numerous mints. Often the wings are small or thin. This one has large wings that nearly fill the flan. I bought it for $5 in 1996, and I doubt it would cost more than $30, and maybe less, now. -- Warren

I love the Smackdowns I always start to sweat when I see some coin I like....This does not help with my coin addiction...Now I want more Constantine coins, I want an Augustus Denarius, and I want a bunch of those late little bronze ones everyone has.

As in the last smackdown, some really nice coins with lots of diversity! I am sure I have posted this one before somewhere but here it is again. Typically common Constantine but I always delight in desert patina and a distinctive mint mark. Constantine I - Siscia Mint - Officina 3 - AE3 - RIC VII 93 O: CONST_ANTINVS AVG, laureate, helmeted, cuirassed bust right R: VICT. LAETAE PRINC PERP, two Victories standing facing each other, inscribing shield with VOT/PR on altar with S, rSIS* in exergue 3.0g, 18/19mm, 0 degree die axis, 319-320AD Cheers, -Kurt

@ Kurt- Hey Kurt, I noticed the RIC VII 93 you posted, it might be worth while to look at a thread that JW made about an engraver match at the "Gamma" SIS mint. I wonder was your coin made in the same building. Very cool. https://goccf.com/t/126014

Man, I found it very difficult to vote (so many winners!!) ...
However, this is how it came-out in the wash:
Gold => Biancasdad coin #1 (100% eye-appeal ... plus 2 x Victory = gorgeous)
Silver => dougdmit coin#2 (for the well placed birth control lathe mark)
Bronze => augustus1 coin #1 (flying Victory is a very pretty coin!!)
..... sorry Bing, I had your coin on-deck (well endowed Victory)
