Maxentius, 306-312
CONSERV VRBS SVAE
six-column temple of Roma, garland in pediment, Roma seated within holding globe and scepter RBQ
RIC 210, page 378, struck 308-310.
Bought this year well under $100.

Marvin Tameanko wrote "Monumental Coins: Buildings and Structures on Ancient Coinage," a large format hardback 242 page book with many line drawings and 8 page plates of Roman coins with architectural types. Originally about $50, too many copies were printed so the price is low. It is on Amazon at $15.

Roman Provincial coins are discussed in "Coins and their Cities" by Martin Price and Bluma Trell. It is a 295 hardback with 522 coins illustrated throughout (many only the architectural side). This very good book costs about $75. It is about provincial and not imperial coins.

Architectura Numismatica; Ancient Architecture on Greek and Roman coins and medals (Argonaut library of antiquities) by Thomas Leverton Donaldson costs only $10. The history and references are good, but there are only 92 drawings and no photographs. The date says 1966, but it is really an unchanged reprint of an old work from 1859!

Philip Hill wrote "The Monuments of Ancient Rome as Coin Types." It is hardback and 145 pages. Hill wrote scholarly articles on the regions of Rome and related numismatic evidence. This book assembles them in one coherent telling. Is just about coins from the city of Rome, its regions and architecture as seen on Roman coins. 203 reverse types are illustrated enlarged from casts, without the obverses. Interspersed are some photos of the remains of the original architecture.

An altar is manmade and qualifies as architecture. So rules the host.

Some great coins so far, I will try to make it back in time for voting...

I have been spending my money on the girlfriend recently (I have to keep her happy occasionally) and so I am trying not to look too much at coins in case I see something I want but cant afford!

I will be more active again in a few weeks I hope if all goes well :)
