Is this worth buying? ... an ancient "error coin"L. Thorius Balbus AR (Silver) Brockage, Error coin Struck 105 BC. Rome Mint Denarius Diameter: 18mm Weight: 3.81 grams Obverse: Head of Juno Lanuvium right, wearing goat's skin Reverse: Incuse of obverse Ref. Cf. Crawford 316/1; cf. Sydenham 598; cf. Thoria 1. VF+, Scarce! NOTE => I already own this coinL. Thorius Balbus AR Denarius Struck 105 BC. Rome Mint 20 mm 3.85 grams Obverse: head of Juno Sospita right, wearing horned goat skin headdress, I•S•M•R downward behind. Reverse: Bull charging right, head facing, A (control letter) above, L•THORIVS below, BALBVS in exergue. Ref. Syd. 598; Crawford 316/1; RSC Thoria 1 => so again => do you think that an ancient "error coin" is a good investment? (and/or worth buying as a cool comparison piece?) ... if so, how much is it worth? Edited by stevex6 10/03/2012 9:48 pm

I think it's worth it. It make the coin even more unique.

Interesting but I wouldn't call this sort of coins a good investment. Brockages are not as popular as modern error coins, they usually sell for less than the "regular" issues.

The draw back to this coin IMP is that the reverse brockage is not well centered and thus not too spectacular.

Nice => thanks for the comments "so far" ... => hey, the coin may not be perfectly centered, but it is certainly not "poorly" centered (there is still at least 80% of the face still lookin' sweet, right?) ... ummm, any educated guesses what a dude might want to pay for this lil' gem? thanks guys Steve

Thanks, Batman ... Hmmmm, I'm glad that I asked, for I was prepared to spend a bit more than that for this coin, so perhaps I will pull-up on the ol' wallet-strings a bit and play this fish for a while ... thanks

Eh-heh-heh => well, I bought it for $150 (which was actually $100 less than the dude's original asking price) ... Ummm sure, I may be a lousy fisherman, but at least I saved myself a C-note (thanks for the heads-up, Batman) ... ... and honestly ... $150 for a 2000 year old brockage coin => c'mon man!! (I'm bringin' this baby home!!) ... it'll look wonderful, nestled next to it's double-sided brother. ... hmmm well, I didn't stay on the wagon for very long, eh? (gawd I'm weak at times .... happy, but weak)

The bust on the error coin is soooo much better than the bust on your other coin. I have no idea what you are paying (and I'm not asking), but if it's affordable I would suggest you buy it.

I love error coins and would like to take a moment and thank the lawyers and my ex for raking me over the coals on divorce settlement costs that no longer allow me to purchase coins like this... Here are 2 Ancient error coins I have, when I sent the flipover strike to NGC, they kindly kept my money and body bagged it...
