As far as melt values.... aren't current nickels the same composition, 75%/25% cupronickel? Couldn't one hoard ANY nickels for melt value?
That is correct. For melt value, age is irrelevant.

i believe the melt value for $1 face of nickel is only at about $1.06 right now...not really worth hoarding for metal value now as the nickel will never be legal to melt down imo...they are just to heavy and are kind of expensive to hoard also...unlike pennies for the 95% copper were each penny is worth almost 2.3x face...i look at it as hey its just a penny...also imo the government will be getting rid of the penny soon anyway just like canada and all penny hoarders will make a pretty penny(pun intended)

I would keep them all.

Alot of financial people and survivalist and even religious people are saying that metals are the safest best for the near future.

I would keep them.

Just to be clear. I was suggesting you hold these nickels for their potential numismatic value. I'm not a big supporter of hoarding nickels as an base metal investment.

I have about 10 Jefferson pre-60 rolls nestled safely in my box of "rainy day coins". If you can afford to hold 'em...hang on to them.
