Today I will be getting my first rolls from the bank. I was thinking of getting 1 Roll of Halves, 1 Roll of Dimes, 2 Rolls of Nickels, 2 Rolls of Pennies, and a couple loose large dollars if they have any. Tell me what you think of my choices. I was going to get them yesterday, but the banks around here were closed for Columbus Day. Also, I will keep you all up to date after I search through them.

Thanks all. I know much of the general information about all of the denomonations and many of the dates to be looking for in them. Also, everytime I look at many coins I take much time on every single coin. I look at every known variety and etc.

thats the way to go at it if your a true collector...unless you dont have the time and want to do volume instead...me personally I just concentrate on a few known errors about 10 or so with the pennies...a few nickel and only the 1982 no p dime I look for....i dont usually do quarters and with halves just the usuall 1972DDO and 1982 83 no fg...occasionally you will notice somethings are off when you start going through it more and more you will get better and faster at it...then you can knock out a couple boxes of something a week and thats when the fun really begins :)

I wish I had enough money to get a box of anything, except pennies. I do have enough to get those.

Hi YN. It also depends on how much time you have! A mixed lot of coins -- say a roll of quarters (40 coins), 2 rolls of dimes (@ 50 coins each), 2 rolls of nickels (40 coins each) and 2 rolls of pennies (50 coins each) is 320 coins for the same money as a whole box of 2500 pennies. Buying the mixed way gives you a greater variety of denominations, but the pennies would take longer to go through. Ultimately, buy whatever you enjoy the most.

Alright. I enjoy the purchase and thinking of whos hand that coin might have been in. A banker, a begger, or even Bob nextdoor. Thanks.
P.S. There is no one named Bob that lives nextdoor to me.

I am sorry that I haven't updated yet. They didn't have a roll of halves, but some loose halfs and some loose dollars.I searched through the rolls and got a couple MS 2012 D dimes, a MS 2007 P penny, and a couple EF Westward Journey Nickels (I didn't have any yet). I also got one Wheat penny and one canadian penny. In the halves and dollars there were: 5 Clad Kennedys, 5 SBAs, and 2 Presidentials. So for a beginner to roll searching, what do you think?

True. Also, one of the SBAs were S mint and that had me going a while because I couldn't tell if it was a proof that had made it into circulation or not. It turned out that it was just a regular one, but it was fun while it lasted.
