Oh that's not toning overall that's bad lighting sorry it cause was hard case so lighting bounces off case went with natural light, my guess is toning may have been older and not due to the case itself as the larger coins don't have the same edge tone, however the obverser do have some light scruff on the larger coins. However that being said super happy with these hard to find coins not as good as the ones I saw at an auction earlier this year bit that was a bit out of range in terms of price

A "bucket lister" for me, a 1695 William III silver crown. It is such a huge silver coin!

Paul, that is an amazing William 3 Crown, absolutely lovely honest piece and 1695 is before the great recoinage, so a less common date!

Meanwhile, I have spent the most money ever on Halfcrowns, a total of $1250 NZ on 5 coins, none have arrived yet, but the dealer had a half off sale, so these coins would have cost $2500 before.

The best coin by far is a borderline UNC 1826 Halfcrown, I already have a VG one - but this will blow it away, this coin was nearly $1000 in June and I got it for $464 (About £240)





It will become my best Halfcrown, although I did pay slightly more for the Commonwealth coin.

Also right up there is this 1820 George IV first type, definitely a bit more worn here, but its still a good EF example and really nice and sharp - a lot of detail and better than my AG3 example I paid $15 for - it cost $375 (£190)





I have dreamed about owning coins of this quality for years and now its come true - I am so happy (Will be even happier when they get here).

1891 EF with full lustre - this will replace a gVG coin





1896 gEF - another stunner, this is the "small shield" and is actually not an upgrade as the worn 1896 coin I have is a large shield!





1897 - AU, it is great to see this beautiful design in such great condition - and I don't have any 1897 halfcrowns yet - so an entry level coin that does not need an upgrade!

Lovely half crowns, especially the Victoria "Old Heads", one of my favorite designs.

No you did not read it properly, the about Good worn disc I had before dated 1820 cost $15
That one shown cost $375.

If I could get a coin like that for $15, I would probably die.

It's all good, I suspect both are cleaned (In fact all of those coins are cleaned except the 1896 and possibly 1897) and that is why they were half price.

The dealer had on the cards $600 US for the 1826 and $500 for the 1820. I also met a guy yesterday who had the 1820 uncirculated which was $900 (More than twice what I paid for my 1820) and this coin was probably historically cleaned too.

Still I would rather have historically cleaned EF and AU, than natural and grubby G - VG!
