2 new arrivals to the family! One each for Halfcrowns and Florins and both coins are upgrades.   1912 George V Florin, this coin is EF and very shiny, I suspect it was historically cleaned - but a nice tone is coming back. Replaces a very worn coin.   This 1918 halfcrown is a different story and is a candidate for an abused coin - seriously - this EF piece was harshly cleaned with silver polish (The blue grey residue I recognise from cleaning trophies) and very harshly, its left an ugly residue which has hardened into a black tone around the edges. The coin is darker and duller than the photo suggests. I got the coin cheap and despite this, it has hardly any wear and still a good coin under that gunk. |

I agree nice piece, not sure about B, but will give you benefit of the doubt.
Look at the R in RUM, that looks interesting or fishy and how the UM looks uneven in the line - it was obvious the die setter at the mint was having an off day.
Agree with condition, its in that nether region between VF and EF - way too nice for VF but if you called it EF - howls of protest. Incredible how many of my Halfcrowns and Florins are in that grading midline - except mine are mostly George V - ha ha!

Very decent 1896 Florin, nice lustre and detail, scratch is not too bad.
Sorry I haven't been around here much, busy doing my Aussie and Kiwi coins of the 2010s.
Just been very few British coins for sale here in NZ lately.

Lovely florin, PaddyB - not that many seem to have survived in nice condition, you typically see them in Fair to Fine, occasionally VF.

Tell me about NumisRob, all mine are that condition except my 1900 which is VF. Paddy's coin is definitely a EF to gEF example.
Meanwhile I have bought a James II halfcrown - Photos a bit later!

One British coin in a sea of Australian and New Zealand modern coins for me!   James II, half crown 1687 - Year Tertio. Condition is cleaned gVG to almost fine. Glad to have a halfcrown finally of this difficult and hopeless monarch, naive enough to think Religious toleration in the 17th century would fly! Real big bidding war over it, that was for sure, a hard won victory. |
