"Frequent" Misleading info. &/or Fraud Transactions are OUT of the equation ...

If you had to go through the entire past forum discussions as well as, referring to several sources to gain knowledge, well done and way to go! But, you have to know that your hand fingers are NOT the same.

Besides, it's an established fact that there are "serious" members (collectors) out there who do NOT have the time luxury (that you have had) to do what you did due to some constrains. Thus, sometimes, they need simple and quick answers to their queries.

Needless to mention that they are NOT all "Notaphilists". Some are just simply collectors or investors.

For instance, Why an "author" carried a burden of compiling info. & going through numerous sources and then pouring what was gained in a book and publicize it?

Such an author could simply take YOUR path, gain the knowledge and never spread it (unless s/he was asked, perhaps) and ADVICE the others (like you and me) to go through the same process and suffer!

Thus, there are NO need for books/comprehensive articles to create, and each and everyone has to taste the same sweat you have had to acquire a particular info. &/or to gain such knowledge!

Back to the main topic, I'm talking about members who post threads like "How Much Does It Worth?" or "Should I Keep/Spend It?"

For example:

If I've come across a vintage Dollar which does only worth its face value, and ask members' opinions of whether "I should keep/spend it", then, someone advises me to keep it because it's somewhat valuable, I'm sorry, but, so what?!!

How such an advice would affect me (as an owner) or other members who are reading such threads or even members who have similar examples and decided to keep them as well after reading such an advice?

It's a volatile market condition, as you know.

As far as "How Much Does It Worth?" threads concern, I do NOT see why not "ignoring" them rather than calling them names?!!

Because, it might fire back at you, one day, & then, this forum would turn into a "battle" field.

As far to my knowledge, one of the MAIN objectives of this forum is to break boundaries between members irrespective of their religions, nationalities ...etc, and try to be NICE to each other & HELP each other as well.

Besides, I've clearly mentioned that the way you providing feedback in case you found a member who was at fault in terms of providing irrelevant replies, otherwise, replies which do not add value (the way YOU see it). Well, I'm NOT trying to lecture/challenge you here, but, there is something called "Constructive" feedback, you should try it sometimes (even for infrequent misleading info.)

Cheers

It is my understanding that star notes are printed separately and are not sequential with regular notes,

Large run star notes are distributed in packs of 100 where the bep swaps 100 notes for 100 star notes. The note above is from a large run and is circulated.

Short runs stars are inserted between notes as replacement notes. This is where you would get the before and after note.

James..

When I first joined there was only about 20 plus pages of posts. I did it over 2 weekends / a few hours of reading in total. As per research it does not take a whole lot of time. The net has made it easy to do a whole lot of research really really quick.

Yes, I share my knowledge with other collectors / dealers and still do so and at times we argue and are at odds on what something is worth.

IF you / others want to invest in a currency collection as an investment then I would suggest doing one's own research rather than reading MB for investment advice.

The old saying "A fool and his money are soon parted" comes to mind.

As per the rest of your comments...you yourself have answered the question as to WHY some do not post here anymore.

Below are some comments / observations if you choose to accept them or not.

About 2 years ago..one of the forum members called me in the middle of the day seeing a deal on ebay. He explained to me what it was...I did not need to see pics or the listing. I told him go for it, he bought it while we were still talking and that was one of the best ebay pick ups of all time. BTW, I also told him IF he was not going to buy it I would buy it. In other words I do not mix nor mince words.

Like I said ignore is Not an option....all you do is...sweep it under the rug thinking the problem goes away....it never goes away...it has to be dealt with.

How do you suggest we deal with it on CCF?

Guys,I'm sorry to say that after being here for a few years I'm thinking of taking a break from this forum.

It seems that there are very few serious Currency Collectors left here that post anything worth while about Currency Collecting. All it's about now is as follows:

What's it worth, What's it worth, What's it worth.
It seems that this forum has become the What's it worth, forum of the Currency Internet World.

I'm more serious about my collecting and don't mind helping out new guys, in fact I've given away a lot of currency to some new members here just to get them started in currency collecting, but this What's it worth thing is getting ridiculous, guys come into this currency section of CCF tell us they have NO interest at all in currency collecting and keep asking the same question, I found this old banknote from 1999 in change, What's it worth, What's it worth.

I really think there are no serious collectors left here and I don't doubt that they left because of the What's it worth kids. So I will be taking a break from CCF as there is not much here to interest serious collectors.

Hopefully one day these kids will realize that it's NOT always about What's it worth, serious currency collecting is more than that. I will stop in every once in awhile just to see if things have turned around and if I can be of some help I'll be more than happy to chime in, but not if it's about What's it worth.
Regards

Insulting them or underestimating their intelligence is NOT an option as well ...

I have no idea why taking the burden to trace such members and start giving them a hard time and harassing them?!!

As I said, if that really would affect the reputation of the forum negatively, I believe Owner and Moderators would have taken an immediate action instead of leaving it to others to take the lead and try to "fix" the issue the way "they" see it!!

If "Ignore" is NOT option to you for some obscure reasons, have you tried to:

1- Educate the one who requests evaluation by mentioning some facts about this note & NEVER answer his main inquiry when it comes to a "Price" guide for instance?

** You might retort and say, "ppl like these don't read" ... Well, true to some extent .... But, I assure you that other members will go through such useful replies and benefit from it (am one of them, btw)

2- Provide some links (when applicable) to such ppl or recommend a good reference?

3- Change the topic & divert the subject of the thread?

4- Ask challenging questions (in the same thread) relating to the shown note?

** Some members would be very interested in surfing the Internet, go through reference, ask experts just to get answers to your questions (get the best out of them)

Picture this, members want an evaluation for notes, number of relevant replies is Zero or NO replies at all to such threads till they fade away. How long such threads would last?

How hard such members would try to post such threads over & over till they get bored when they receive NO replies or Irreverent answers?

NOW ...

Imagine this, members want an evaluation for notes, they always get harassed or being insulted, yes, some of them might stop or leave, but some, will backfire for sure (battle field).

My 2 Cents

P.S. I'm not an investor, meanwhile, I collect scare-rare notes but don't like buying them over-priced (if you know what I mean?!) ..... Meanwhile, I'm doing my level best to be a true Notaphilist.

Cheers
