Is there any difference between the standard issue 1oz Zambia elephants vs the ones from a set?

@Silverleaf I am not sure, I havent really looked much at the Zambian elephants. Are you still looking for other dealers? I recently purchased a 2014 gilded elephant from a german dealer. I also snagged a F15 Rwanda Zebra slab off ebay.

@silverleaf Well I was thinking about buying from him but I found another dealer on ebay that was much less than him, even with shipping it was less than Gainsville coins. they are called Silber Stars and they have a big inventory of silver coins, gilded coins that are silver etc. You can also find them on ebay or on the internet.

Sorry about that, should have put a link. Here we go: http://www.ebay.com/usr/www_silberstars_deyou can also google silberstars and their site will come up. I am not affiliated with them, have no vested interest. I just made my first purchase from them off of ebay for a gilded 2014 somalian elephant. For 2014, I am just missing the BU silver elephant, high relief coin, and 2014 proof somalian elephant. I have an itch for a gold elephant but I am holding off until theres more clarity on what gold wants to do, either dip lower or stop dripping and stabilize. I might be waiting awhile but thats ok I dont mind being patient, I always get what I want in the end. :D

Thanks yup! Nice selection. A lot of these were gilded privately which makes me wonder if even coins that have an official gilded version, have privately gilded versions as well.

Emporium Hamburg had a booth at the FUN Show in Orlando last week. They had a pretty good selection of elephants. I forget what year they went back to on the regular issues, but they also had colorized versions from 2012 and 2013 as well as some of the fractional gold coins.

Time to update this-
Recently, for kicks, I bought a MS-70 Somalia slabbed elephant, silver 1 oz coin. I also bought one, raw.
I am not a big slab graded collector. However, to me, I dont see what the big deal is. In fact, to me, its not worth it. However, before I made that statement, I wanted to actually own one, thereby establishing I am not talking just for the sake of talking without actually owning one.
Bottom line- these coins, are still bullion coins. They are beautiful by design. But they are not proof. My MS-70 2014 Somalia elephant has developed very small milk spots. Yet I bought another one, raw, and it has nada. In fact I have bought non-graded coins that have no milk spots at all.
So, to me, theres no reason to buy slabbed bullion coins. I however, will purchase, graded Somalia elephants going forward that are proof. I am waiting to get my hands on a 2014.
The problem with milk spots is not an issue isolated to Somalian elephant bullion coins, they all get them, if not now, they will later. Sure, there might be some that don't get it, and thats good and possible, but don't count on it lol.
In conclusion, 2014 has been a great year to collect the Somalian elephant series. As usual, the design for this year is great. My favorite pieces for 2014 are the colored Jubilee set with the day and night colored coins. If you aren't into colored coins, you might be after owning a pair of these.
My biggest goal is to start on the gold Somalian elephant coins but I am waiting for a clearer picture where prices are going before starting to collect those.

quick update here- If anyone is looking for them, the high relief 2014 silver Somalian elephants are out now, and newly listed on ebay, MCM has slabbed PF 70 ones. I picked up one today, now this is a coin worth being slabbed and I thought the price was reasonable considering what other dealers been asking for a 70 grade 2014 high relief silver elephant.

Recently received a graded PF 70 Somalia 2014 silver HR coin.
I like it, sans the small tiny milk spots on the coin. You would think for its grade and finish there wouldn't be these issues, but they are indeed present.
I know last year I picked up a nongraded 2013 HR silver elephant coin and while it had no milk spots, it did have all sort of black smudge marks around the lettering of the coin.
I think I can see why the HR coins are sitting around everywhere, while the elephants on the coin look great, it seems they are having production issues with these and they aren't favored for that reason.

Hi ho all, very NEW here. found this on accident. and I didn't read all 800 posts, so I am sorry if this is a repeat. but, I have a question. I bought a roll of 20 Somali Elephants from APMEX. all good - but ONE in the roll, the last one, has a Pink color on the elephants! yes, pink elephants, I know! does that make it worth more? less? no matter? I put it in an airtight, and here it sits. just faint pink. thanks, kat
