Quote: They think rates are going up which pushes up Gold? PMs (as well as most other commodities) has a "COST of CARRY." As interest rises, the cost of carry goes up, and tips the balance of SPOT PRICE lower.

You know I have no horse in this race. I havent even bothered to do much in the way of trading with gold and silver. The price action, despite being in a clear downtrend, the constant violent moves are not my thing and there have been a few other areas to try a few trades.. which I might add 2015 will go down in the books as a RANGE BOUND market and thank god its past us,, hope the range moves in some direction for most assets..
but gold and silver.. it would be nice, from a collecting view point, to just finally flush and get this done and over with or just rip higher and leave this downtrend in the dust.
However, this is really up the market. So far the script has been a downtrend that just grinds slowly.. no fast and furious flush and done. This gives me the opinion that gold and silver will continue in this manner until they are well and ready to stop going lower.
I have held back from major purchases of coins. There are many gold coins and silver coins I have been wanting but I just cannot bring myself to buy coins in a downtrend. I can stomach an 1 oz here and there of silver,, gold is OUT of the question. I want to get some kilo elephants but nope. I want some gold elephants but nope.... I want some other gold coins but nope...
I just cant as price drip drip drip drip.. and I have evidence that as PMs drop, coins on my wish list drop further on the secondary market. I am sorry but I am not throwing my dollars at something that declines. I would rather sit back and wait and do nada then see coins drop below my cost.

This was instructive to me, regarding the risks taken if a government decides to shed reserves. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sale_...s,_1999-2002(sorry about the link - copy and paste to read) 400 tons of gold put on the market in 3 years of auctions, driving the price into Brown's Bottom. All this gold was eventually absorbed and the price rose substantially. But when something like this happens again, and it will, be prepared to wait at rock bottom until the big seller has finished their business. Venezuela is one likely candidate.

Direct exposure to a commodity is a wild ride. Compare royalty trusts with energy companies. On the up-side the trusts are fantastically lucrative, but on the down-side they absolutely suck. Energy companies are up and down but not like trusts, which are completely valued by their gas and oil assets. The same thing holds for bullion. You have to have the patience to wait out the bottom. Three years, ten years, whatever it takes.
Fifteen years and two bubbles ago I decided that my path to retirement was based on how much I could save. Higher yield can speed things up, but always aiming for the highest yield inevitably leads to boom-or-bust rather than stable savings appreciation...and those busts in 2000 and 2009 were real wealth-destroying doozies.

I really dont know what to think, I keep my opinions to myself. I will say, talking from the stance of a pure collector of silver and gold coins, again I say it again, can we just get this done and over with? Can this downtrend just finally F L U S H.... and be done. Or can the downtrend just end and get into a downtrend. I find I am losing more and more interest in this hobby. I have a HUGE wish/watch list but the more I watch prices, the more I see why I have stopped buying over the years,, this year I really have slowed down big time... as coins I watch drop in price because of PM prices slow dribble lower. The trader in me says "be patient, go with the flow and let time work out this downtrend." Eventually we get a flush OR this downtrend continues to just do it has until it finally stop... which has been move lower, come to yearly lows, bounce higher, chop/sideways action, occasionally tease with coming into important trend lines, then fall short and grind right back to yearly lows... rinse and repeat. this sort of price action wears everyone out and can chop the heck out one. In any case, I remain to purchase few coins.. I am even now starting to slow down on my purchases of Somalian elephants...

Here we go again..
Silver hits a fresh yearly low, hitting 13.75, the previous yearly low was hit on 12/3 and that yearly low was 13.81.
However, as the session goes on, we see once again as many times before.. silver bounces off the yearly high rather than falling hard.
Gold is just flopping around, pretty much flat today.
what a slow death march for the PMs.
