What is a rigged market? I thought silver and gold went up and down because of increased demand or lack of demand. Am I being too naïve?

You can buy and sell "paper gold" without ever owning or receiving physical metal. Selling short is a tactic used by the manipulators to drive price down.

This is an older article but explains it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ellen..._985701.html

Commodities (The Futures Exchanges) ~~

It is a ZERO net sum system.

EXCEPT for commissions etc.

Funds (money) flows from the weak, greedy, egotistical, under financed, to the well financed, intelligent, patient, players.

IMHO

fistfulladirt - I am still waiting to hear when you mean by a "rigged market" when it comes to silver and gold. I am not sure what you mean by that.

@punman. Someone has already answered. Millions, or billions of dollars of paper gold sold in one shot. No physical delivery required. Driving the price down.

They say that the value of gold, and silver has remained the same, for hundreds of years.
It's the measurement of it's value in fiat that fluctuates.

@cuzzx - usually when the dollar strengthens, gold and silver fall. When the dollar falls, so does gold and silver.
Make sense? I didn't think so.

These fluctuations in spot prices make no sense anymore.

The main thing that has pushed up gold the last few months is the North Korea issue. Look what happened the last 36 hours since he fired a missile that went over Japan...people pulled out of stocks and into gold.

Gold is a safe haven investment, it's viewed in that regard.
