Out of curiosity, what did the auction start at? I see quite a few bids so I'm thinking it possibly started for a few dollars possibly? If that's the case, can't really fault the seller for anything.

I would open the roll that was most likely been opened and see what I get. If they are all wheaties, then the other rolls should be too.

ALLRIGHT! They just came in the mail an hour ago and they have been sorted and spot checked. I'll just start off by saying were they worth $25? No. I admit that I got a little excited despite my logic. There was a small part of me that wanted to just win. Not the best way to do it but that's a lesson I take away for sure. I'm usually very level headed about my budget and limits on ebay (I also collect movie posters so that's where my main expertise lays)...

So onto the loot!
- Nothing above 1955 and nothing below 1918
- A little heavy on the Philly mints but Denver and San Fran make up more than half of the total
- A good bit from the 40's and actually a good bit from the 1930's too
- 1919s
- 1920d
- 1924s
- 1926d
- (2) 1927s
- (3) 1929s
- 1930s

Oh... and five Indians!

- (2) 1887 - 1 cleaned
- 1890
- 1891
- 1905
- 1906

So one thing that interests me is wondering if this guy just builds rolls and calls them unsearched. The rolls are old waxy paper and say they are from 'Boardwalk Penny Arcade' one thing I thought interesting is that of my small hoard of wheaties that I already have that came from starter bags or mixed lots, NONE are as dirty as this lot! I actually wouldn't be surprised if these did come from an old carnival or arcade where kids are munching on candy and popcorn and handling their money. I would say about 125 of the 150 have some kind of candy syrup or dirty semi slimy something on them. Again, not saying the auction was totally legit, just proposing that it could have been.

Overall, I paid too much yes, but I did have a great time with my son sorting and playing and searching which I do love. Now onto to looking closer at them for an RPM or other oddities.

At least it wasn't two wheaties on the ends and 1986's in between....It does sound like constructed rolls though

If you had fun with it $25 is no biggie. I wouldn't do it every week though!

$28.75 for 150 coins... if we price out the IHC's at 50 cents a pop, that means you paid $26.25 for 145 wheat cents. 18.1 cents per wheat, ouch! Even if we be a bit generous and factor in the branch mint early wheats as 50 cents a pop, we're still looking at $21.25 for 135 coins, 15.74 cents each. Way, way over market value.

If I could get half of that (8 cents per) I would sell every single Wheat cent I have laying around and you'd find a heck of a lot more stuff worth something.

I would venture to guess if you were to buy more rolls they would have a very similar make up.

There are legit unsearched rolls on ebay but theyre very hard to find and the seller would just have a handful not consistently sell them. No one who deals in coins would want to sell a roll from 80 years ago and not know whats inside. Maybe one time but not everyone.
