You stated that victorian planchets did not go through the upsetting mill . This is not true . I once owned a victorian clipped cent that did indeed show the blakesly effect . I no longer own it and I'm not sure if I have a picture of it .

In regards to the blank - there is no way that ngc or any grading service could be 100 percent sure it was a Canadian large cent planchet .

Here is an off center 1859 cent that clearly shows the rim was upset .

Obviously as of 1908, Canada is striking its own large cents.

Seems likely the planchets were also produced at the RCM.

But, before that, I would think the same planchets were used for many Empire coins.

Now, THAT is a beautiful error coin, but one heck of a price tag. It does show the Type II planchet plain and clear, at least for the thinner Provincial planchets, and I stand corrected.

The blank planchet I have (had), is in a NGC holder, which states 1902-1910 - so much for the upset mill theory. So, back to the drawing board to figure out how, or why, NGC called it like they did... I am inclined to think now, that it was because someone told NGC what to call it.

By the way, anyone here see this one? No weight given, nor any other details in typical asyn fashion, but could have been a good gamble.
