Hey Guys! just bought these nine beauties. unfortunately some of them are quite corroded. Could you help me identify them? Also, I think they're authentic but I'm not sure, please advice me on that as well. Any help is greatly appreciated. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by DeeKay 08/08/2013 05:38 am

The coin in the second row center is Claudius II memorial issue. With the exception of the last coin in the center row they all appear to be later Roman of either Constans, or Constantius II and a Valentinian I. There isn't enough detail on the large coin to say who it might me.

far right, middle row is very interesting. Looks provincial, very nice!
All of these have been way overcleaned, so they dont have any value unfortunately (perhaps the claudius might, its a very nice one for the type, stylised altar).

What do you mean by "overcleaned" do they have no value for a beginner collector? I paid 17.50$ for them, was I duped? (again) :(

Overcleaned mean when all of the patina is removed from the coin and the bare metal is showing. For your first buy of ancients you didn't do all that bad. Most of these coins are very common and can be found at high grades for not a lot of money. As you learn more about ancients you will see what are good buys and what aren't.

Thanks for the kind words :)) So, basically did I manage to get my money's worth or not? I'm quite stingy about being duped in this, even though I'm a beginner

The Claudius II and the one with the animal reverse are worth what you paid for the lot.

Wow! Nice! Thank you for the info! I still need to identify that animal coin though.

Can you post a pic of the head taken straight down so we can read the legend?

Two I would class as overcleaned, the late (small) issues of the "fallen horseman being speared" type. The coin on the right of the 2nd row appears to be a Greek type, with a Bull reverse. Did you buy them on ebay or in Tblisi?

Yes, I'm from the republic of Georgia :)) I bought them on ebay, but there are some nice local coins in Georgia as well. I try to get them from time to time. I'll try to get a better pic for this bull coin or any other info for this matter.

By "fallen horseman" coin you mean Constantius II right?
I think I identified the bull coin, it's from Neapolis Campania; Apollo and the man-headed bull, but I still need your thoughts guys, whether my deduction is right or not :))

Quote: By "fallen horseman" coin you mean Constantius II right?~DeeKay Yes. I would not worry even about them being overcleaned. Those types were low value issues and probably looked not so better when they were struck. You can find out more on this type here: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/nu...%20reparatioWhat is the postal system like in Tblisi, do you collect all your mail at the Post Office or it is delivered to you?
