Quote: Not as good as others...' State of the art functionality rendered by higher expected costs is only in the eye of the beholder but this era's competitive arena of photographic smart phones has more than equally served to decidedly augment ROI (return on investment) as evidenced by the op's exceptional end results using a truly multi-functional device already possessed. Because of the evolving similarities amongst today's smart phones this thread's applicability is increasingly more pervasive for solutions to enhance inadequate numismatic photos.

Quote: I was wondering do you have the galaxy 6 cell phone. Thank you for your praise! Actually, I have an iPhone 5, I have used a galaxy s6 before, and the camera is AMAZING. With an iPhone, it is very hard to get the right distance away that it can focus, but not too far so that you need to zoom in a lot, since most phones have digital zoom, which just amplifies pixel size, it is important to remember that the more you zoom in on a phone, the lower quality the photo will be.

I have been testing a slightly modified setup using my iPhone 6S Plus. I am placing the coin near the top of the screen when shooting to eliminate the reflection of the phone on the coin itself. I also added a 4th Jansjo lamp for more adequate lighting throughout the entire surface. The date appearing darker was always a problem when the coin was centered in the middle of the screen- again, from the phone's reflection. I haven't tried it on a Morgan yet, but I will. What do you guys think? I'm pretty happy with the result. Also, I only applied the sharpen tool and color balance for post editing.

Thanks, BigSilver. I just practiced with a Morgan, and it yielded similar results.

Quote: The iPhone 7 has real zoom BTW. Good to know. I still have a 6S Plus. Whenever I've tried to zoom in on coins, particularly nickels, the images come out too blurry. I'll be anxious to see the difference when I eventually upgrade.

I also think that the Motorola Moto X also has real zoom.

Darth - I take it you are now using Jansjö LED lamp lights instead of the Sanoto Lightbox. Is that correct? Also, do you still stack the coins to achieve the right focal length? Thank you! Mark
