Gene

You are correct. Courteau #292. MS 64. Super token.

My cut-and-paste:

292 R-8 The inner Dots within the obverse Rosettes are small.

The inner Dots within the obverse Rosettes are a trifle smaller than those of variety 293.

Dots are: 7 ½ X ½ 4 ½ X 4.

Obverse Characteristics:

The lower edge of the Mantle is weakly attached to the Man's right Arm.

The lower edge of the Mantle to the left of the Man's right Arm is lumpy.
A heavy wide pleat is centred in the void betwixt the lower outline of the Mantle and the pleat of the 6th and 7th Mantle Folds.
The length of the Mantle is distant from the Man's Arm.

The 6th and 7th Mantle Folds are separate and the Hollow is bulb shaped.

The lower section of the outline of the 6th Mantle Fold is nearly straight.

The 7 is on-line betwixt the 3rd and 4th Denticles to the right of the 5.

The top of the 7 is higher than the top of the 5.

The 7 is distant from the Denticles

An imaginary line across the top of the 7 is on-line with the right corner of the upper Lobe of the right Rosette.

A large fork of three branches is below the Man's right Arm, the lower branch curves upward. A line is above.

Dr. Courteau identifies this as a large fork of three branches. This is better described as a large fork with a line above. All are of equal length and terminate short of the Body of the Man.

Two Knobs are on the Dagger Hilt, the upper is very small and weak.

The lower Knob is oval and distant from the Man's right Hand. The upper Knob is small and weakly struck.

The F in OF is re-cut.

The Bridle Reins are perfect.

The left Leg of the Dragon is connected to the Body of the Dragon.

A large Dot is in the field above the left Knee of the Horse.

This is a large bold Dot, slightly to the left of the Knee of the left Leg of the Horse, on-line with the top of the Fist of the Man and the left-side of the Stand of the right Leg of the 2nd A in CANADA. A cluster of dot-like defects are in the field betwixt the C in the same word and the Reins of the Bridle. These are apt to be caused by rust spots on the die.

A short Die-Clash is from the Hip of the Man to the Back of the Horse.

From perfect dies.

Reverse Characteristics: The same as variety 293.

The Anchor Rope Dots are: 7 ½ X ½ 4 ½ X 4.

The Anchor Ring is perfect.

The Grass Blades are complete.

The upper Grass Blade is close to the apex of the fruit, but is not attached. The lower Grass Blade is attached to the fruit at 1 o'clock. The lower Blade points to the right corner of the upper Lobe of the right Rosette.

Note - Diligence must be exercised here. The upper Lobe is understood as having the orientation of the Rosette Denticles at 6 o'clock. The first impression one has is the blade points to the left Lobe, but what appears to be the left Lobe is actually the upper Lobe.

Only the right-side of the lower Oak Leaf betwixt the Anchor and Sword shews and is attached to the Anchor Shaft.

No Oak Wreath Stem shews.

The left Anchor Brace is thick and slightly narrower than the right Brace and extends to the vertex of the Fluke.

The Anchor Rope Dots terminate with two medium size Dots.

From perfect dies.

Thus:

292 Perfect - no Die-Cracks.

@Colonialtokens: I notice that for your description of Courteau #292 variety that you picked up the same number of dots described by Courteau on the reverse for the rope (7½ X ½4½ X 4).

However, when I was checking for the next edition of my book on the subject, I noticed instead that the number of dots in the lower part of the rope around sword seemed to be more «½ 7» rather than «7 ½» (Two Examples below). Am I mistaken?

Post-Your-Canadian-Tokens

Otherwise, for 1960NYGiants, on your token did you notice a very slight die crack on the reverse that runs through the letter «bAnk» to reach the tip of the sword?

@colonialtokens - thanks for the extensive description. And nice to see you here again.

@ainsivalavie - my example has a slight crack at the tip of the sword only.
Post-Your-Canadian-Tokens

BTW: there are 83 halfpennies and 48 one pennies in that hoard I'm working on. The Co292 example is by far the best one in the lot.
