Just out of curiosity, do you see it as VF30? I'm still working hard on to learning grade wheats and I admit, I'm struggling to see this as a 30. Is this an example of a TPG bumping a key date to make themselves look good? Honest curiosity here. Report this Post to the Staff

I thought it was a strong VF coin, but I didn't assign a number grade to it. I don't think it quite makes the VF30 criteria of the ANA Grading Standards, but it does have nice eye appeal. I really think the TPG's are terribly inconsistent when it come to grading circulated Lincolns. I just looked at VF30 1914-D's on ebay and some look a lot better than mine and some worse. I believe this inconsistency is one of the reasons I have such a hard time grading Lincolns. Report this Post to the Staff
iontyre Valued Member United States 269 Posts	Posted 04/25/2014 9:30 pm Wow. It's a nice coin, but when I started collecting back in 1973, this would have been no better than a Fine. GradeFlation is definitely a reality. Look at the wear on the tip of the left wheat - no way that got a VF back in the 70's. I tell ya, the ones in my collection I am conservatively grading as F15, in 20 years the TPG's will be calling them EF45! Report this Post to the Staff
