My first coin ( I need to find it, sadly) was a 1917 Lincoln Wheat cent that I found in the back of a car. I wanted to create a '100' year set, this was around a four or five years ago, so I would of still had to get some of them. Currently, I have all but the 1924 weak D and 1955 Double Strike and other error coins I believe.

When my grandfather died in 1968, I received a leather pouch of wheat cents and this. I lost the wheat cents.

No, I sold it for junk silver price after I realized cleaning = bad.

A 1921 Morgan that I HARSHLY cleaned with some silver cleaner and a wool cloth.
It was so shiny and I was so proud... Little did I know...

(oops, put "Yes" on the poll)

No. My grandfather did a thing with all the grandchildren and being the first born male grandchild, he got me a dollar bill and coin (Ike) the day I was born. My father spent them on beer shortly after, because why does a newborn need money for?

Yep, I do. A 1923 Peace dollar and a 1942 silver nickel. They're both in my type book.

Shadz, I'm really sorry to hear that. Coming from an alcoholic family, that hits pretty close to home.

I don't remember my first coin, but it had to be something from the 1970s. I started coin collecting in 1980 when I was 9.

There are a few that I do remember:

- My Dad gave me a 1970 quarter that I needed at the airport when I was 9. I don't know why I remember that :-)

- My local Woolworth's had a revolving display of coins for sale. My mom bought me a 1927-P Standing Liberty quarter from there.

- Right after I started collecting, I asked my maternal Grandparents if they had any old coins that I could have. They gave me a 1908-O Barber quarter, a 1903-O Barber half, and a late 1890s Barber half. I will never part with any of those!

I've still got mine. A 1992 Mexico 1000 Pesos that dear ol' dad brought back from a business trip down there. The handful he brought me from Mexico, Uzbekistan, Canada, and India started my whole collection!

Shadz, I don't know if that was meant to be funny, but I can't stop laughing!! Maybe it was the way you wrote it. Priceless!

I'm pretty sure I have my first coin. My Grandfather gave the grandchildren a coin every Christmas. I still have all of them in a cigar box. I just don't know which one was the first one!

Give me a break. I was 6 months old when I started collecting!

I have an uncirculated 1959 LMC that came with the coin collecting starter kit my mom got me for Christmas (1973). Still in the original 2x2 self sealing flip I put it in that Christmas.

I am not really sure if I have my first collected coin. I would have to check my records/coins. If I find I have the coin(s), will post a picture.
