I am currently working on a project that will require slabs from each of the grading companies. I have managed to locate Anacs, NGC and, of all things, SGS slabs here at the house. If any of you have empty, intact, slabs from any of the other grading companies or have something very very cheap to sell in a slab I would be interested in obtaining one. For what it is worth being a coin collector I have found it disheartening at times to find a coin you have searched for, for what seemed like forever, only to bring it home and NOT be able to display it proudly for a while where everyone can see it. Slabs, as we all know are pocket size and can walk off very easily so I have made up my mind to do something about it. I am working on a display setup that would lock in your slab, so to speak, and would be far to large to put in your pocket and walk off. Have 3 different ideas in mind and currently working on the cheaper of the 3 (time, labor and material) and will work my way up to the grand daddy of all individual display holders. It has been hit and miss but I finally have made some headway and will probably send a sample or two to different individuals here on the forum for opinions as soon as I can get a few more done. I don't know about many of you but I like to enjoy those SPECIAL coins for a while and with this system it will be easy to rotate your favorite coin(s) for display, when ever you so please, as long as you own a screwdriver (phillips) and a slab from the same company. We will see how things work out and I will post more info in the next few weeks. Hopefully I am on to something that will benefit myself, as well as, others and we won't be looking at the same plastic, gaudy offerings now on the market. In the mean time I DO need a few slabs, preferably empty, if you have them. Thanks guys and gals in advance!

Terry...how are you going to get them empty? It is not something you can get from the grading services...or can you? I have some inexpensive PCGS, ICG and PCI slabs you can have cheap. PCI 1977-S PR69DCAM 1c ICG (with intercept shield) 1979-S type 2 PR63CAM 1c PCGS 1979 MS65RD 1c I pick up stuff like this for my kids. But now they are getting smart and want the "good" stuff. Give a kid a Coin Values magazine and Red Book and look what I created! Or if you want to trade for a XF or better common date Morgan (or something like that), that would work. Let me know...

Well some of the slabs I have managed to open, from time to time without busting them all to pieces, but that is the reason I am appealing for help. Its hard to do so a cheap, worthless coin, still in the slab may be my best bet. Zakgold look for PM. Need those slabs!!!

longnine you have me lost on this one? CoinWorld shells? Guess what I need is the different slabs due to their size differences. If I have one from each of the grading companies I am covered as long as I don't let them get away from me. I do intend to send a sample to Susan and ND for a bit of advice, if they don't object in any way, as like it or not they are dealers and thats where I will need to put this holders when I get some done. Like I said, I have 3 designs in my head at this time and one is very complex to complete but I have the necessary tools and material so all I have to do is come up with the time! I am sure Susan will post a photo of design one when it finally gets to her and then I will be able to get all of your opinions. Design 2 and 3 will come in time so I will be able to get everyones opinion on those as well. Guess I just see a short coming of sorts, at least in my collecting mentality, and I am going to try and correct it and hopefully others will benefit as well! Now tell me about those Coin World shells?

Terry, I'm looking forward to seeing the design and will definitely post a pic of it when it's received. Are you planning on making it so that you can see the edge of the coin? I've always thought this necessary as there are a lot of coins with lettered and milled edges that are worth being able to see through the holder.

No Susan, hate to disappoint you! The whole idea behind my project is to provide a way to put a favorite coin on your desk, TV, coffee table or end table without the fear of it disappearing into someone's pocket. I like to enjoy each new coin I purchase, some more than others, and just laying them around isn't getting it. I will be able to do holders with multiple opening but will need to know which grading company slabs will be used as each holder is made to fit each slab. You will see what I have in mind, probably first, when I get some done and in the mail. Just hope I am not wasting my time on this!

They would also be great for a dealer display, especially if he has quite a few customers in his shop. My dealer has had a slab or two walk away in the last couple of years and these holders would stop that!

That's a great Idea. I have many one-of-a-kind error coins that I would like to display. It's hard to have a slab just layin around. Go with it and market it, good luck.

If I understand your post correctly you want put together a bunch of slabs and somehow lock them all together so it will be too big for someone to put in their pocket? CoinWorld sells holders that are 2.5 X 3.25 inches. They are acrylic snap together shells that they say "size and style match perfectly with PCGS certified coin holders." BTW, I'm pretty certain Capital Holders can custom make any size plaque you would want from lucite plastic. So a plaque say 12 inches by 12 inches would also be too big for someone to put in their pocket.

Thanks for the info longnine! Soon you will all see and understand what I am trying to do, well...I am doing, as the single individual holders are coming along nicely now that I have gone through my screw-it-up process. Getting some order to it now and should have one on the way to Susan before to long. I trust her judgement and feel, after she sees what I have done, she will report honestly on my project. Errorcoins I think you are going to love this when you see what it can and will do for us nuts who just have to have a coin to admire CONSTANTLY! Will look forward to your opinion as well!

Shouldn't be too long now and I will mail one to Susan so she can post a photo. I will only be making the single holders, at this time, until I get some inventory. Still looking for cheap slabs if any of you have anything other than PCGS, Anacs, PCI, SGS, or NGS. Actually I wouldn't mind having an extra or two as I intend to display a few at local dealers so the extra slabs would be great. The more I look at these first few, the more I like them, and the idea that I (we) for a few bucks can enjoy a slabbed favorite coin without fear of it ending up in a pocket. Really kind of a simple idea and I am surprised someone else hasn't done this. Simple eloquence! The slabbed coin maintains its its beauty and is the center of focus and the holder adds to the display. Nothing fancy but it all just seems to mesh together! Yup, I believe it is simple eloquence and it serves a much needed purpose and lasts a lifetime and, of course, you are free to change the slab any time you desire! You won't have to buy another holder, unless you have more than one favorite coin! SORRY, this has started to sound like a commercial and I didn't aim for it to be! Just excited about stumbling on to something that we all could use!
