the problem is trust.
I don't think so. The people who used Mt. Gox had way too much trust for their own good. I think the real problem is the evident lack of honesty and integrity.

There we go, more than 1/20th of all the world's Bitcoin vanished into the ether!

"See, Bitcoin is gaining popularity, look at our best-used and most reliable exchange"... whoosh!

Sometimes I worry that Bitcoin really will take off and I'll be one of the sobbing plebes who didn't get in early while the multitrillionaires build their redoubts of liberty or whatever, but then something like this happens.

Zombucks Vs. Bitcoins....

when the end does come the Zombucks still work in a dark room with a match, or in the light of day with out a solar panel and massive internet infrastructure.

Not like I'm an end of times hoarder, I honestly don't think it will all go to Mad Max over night but I'd much rather have something in hand than a digital representation of something that never did exist...

Heck I keep 10 CENTS in my bank account and no more. Direct deposit day is direct withdraw day, the only bank I trust is "Hip Pocket National"

I'm sure at some point digital currencies (or currency) will become the norm, pretty sure Bitcoin won't be it though as imo it will be something sanctioned and fully controlled by the powers that be. What Bitcoin is doing is highlighting to them some of the many possible flaws of such an enterprise.

Will Bitcoin survive? I'm sure it will for a while yet although confidence in it must have taken a big hit over the last few weeks even for those with plenty of skin in that particular game and it's that confidence or lack thereof that in the short to medium term may well end up deciding it's fate.

The most important thing Bitcoin has highlighted for me personally is how public sentiment toward the acceptance of such a digital currency is slowly changing over time. I can only hope that the pace of that acceptance remains slow so I can see out my final years without any such introduction.

The government will probably shut it down, and come out something similar on its own under a different name, but first it will get all the profits from those that held it.

Well here we are, almost 2 and a half years after this thread went quiet... I think it's been a year or more that this has been here in Toronto: http://decentral.ca/bitcoin-atm/ a bitcoin ATM.

Oh, but there are many bitcoin tokens around - and possibly a few with errors too!

Just look here for a few samples: https://news.bitcoin.com/three-phys...coin-tokens/

I'm not going to collect these tokens, though. I'm already having a hard time getting my current sets completed.

ps. Thanks for reviving this Little Briar Rose thread.
