i dont like the sunken line around the inside of the rim. looks about the size of a quarter. I believe the bust impression is the wrong size to be a vise job; so is it possible that a quarter was struck (perfectly centered)in the looney dies? but that still doesn't explain it. someone would have had to accidentally feed an already struck coin back through when another coin was stuck to one of the dies?

If this is a single strike from a late capped die then I think its probably 2 thirds of the way through its cap life. I would have expected the queens head to be more spread out but then again maybe with the security circle nearly clear through I think it saved the metal from expanding outward from around her head more quickly. The later the cap the more detailed the reverse becomes so with a lack of detail of either side this must be just passed the halfway mark in this caps life..I would guess. With the large amount of readers on this thread I assume a lot of people still looking at these pics so here's one more to look at, it dosnt help much in this case but maybe someone will see something. I was kind of waiting for Wert to post one of these...oh well Nice find banklady..  keep lookin  |

So everyone agrees there is a cap strike to create the queen's image, then the cap coin was ejected, but how did the last weak strike happen to create the Olympic and part loon image. Just an coin with so many things happening.

Thanks for all of the advise.
As I said before, I am not a collector - this is the first coin - I didn't even notice the shape of the queen showing through until this morning.
Most of the stuff I read here goes right over my head.
When I take it in somewhere to get it checked out in person and get the weight, etc. I will let you know.

What part of the province are you in? We might be able to direct you to a collector or dealer who might be able to help. Something to remember, most coin dealers (coin shops) are NOT error experts, so no matter what is told to you, chances are the comments here will be more useful.

It's a new century. My daughter's car's computer won't let her slam into the car ahead. I'm sure the mint's new presses will stop a capped die before it slams into the next planchet. If not somebody should be having a talk with whoever is responsible for the purchase of new equipment.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
