Okay everyone, show of hands. Who wants to risk $1000 on the ebay Buyers Protection Plan .............(Jeopardy Theme plays)............ anyone ?

Not me.

Someone might (theoretically) be convinced to make use of a throwaway account at a ridiculous overbid - never intending to pay - in order to ensure the coin never falls into the hands of the unknowing....

I've probably had ebay pay me back several thousand dollars via Buyer Protection over the past 18-24 months. It just works.

At the risk of straying off topic, you make it sound as if any ebay purchase, however ill-considered, essentially boils down to "playing with the house's money." Your personal experience notwithstanding, is it in fact a slam dunk that ebay always comes down on the side of the buyer? Do you have enough faith in that to always bid on a dubious item such as this? Because it will only take its once going against you to blow your system up.

With all respects to you personally.

Has anyone ever blocked your bids?
