Just posted this pic so I still have it on the desktop. I bought it from a local dealer and I don't remember if he graded it F-12 or F-15, but I think it looks just Fine in my collection.

Nice....

Red Book says a 1909S VDB in F-12 condition goes for $900. Is that accurate?

IMO Red Book is high retail.. What a Coin goes for will depend on how you are buying or selling it.

Greysheet for a Fine grade coin is ask/$575 Bid/$615. Many dealers will pay back of greysheet
to a customer, by as much as 30%. So for a Fine 12 1909 S VDB (problem free) you might get
$400. I would see this as a starting point for what the coin is worth.

A quick look at ebay I see some that are in the Fine grade, selling in the $600 to $700 range.

Coins like this selling at a local coin shop would be marked up above greysheet. So you might
see them priced in the $700 to $800 range, to leave room to haggle with the price.

At the time I bought it, I paid $900.00 for it. I was actually speaking with the dealer the other day about it and he was saying the prices for VDBs were dropping somewhat from where they were just a year or two ago, so he'd probably sell that same cent for about $750-$800 now. Of course, he's the dealer and he has his mark-ups, but I still think he's being pretty fair about it all.

I can believe that ... to me ... it seems like I have seen more S vdb's in the past two years, than any other time in my lifetime.

Let's see some more of these S-VDBs! I'm going to a coin show in Vegas in October and maybe I will get super lucky, hit it big on the casino floor, and be able to buy an MS '09 S-VDB with the winnings! In a somewhat-related story, when I went to Vegas in 2012, I went to a coin show, spent about $300.00 on a 1914-D cent and a few other things, and on the way out the door I put a $20 in a slot machine. One spin and I hit a $348.00 jackpot. Paid for my coin show expenses! I strongly thought about going back in for more, but I was happy with my purchases and felt even better thinking of them as "free".
