QUESTION:
Do the images download to this site and remain for as long as this topic remains? My offsite storage site is getting quite plump and I'd like to start deleting images. If I can do that without harming this topic that would be great.

If I can do that without harming this topic that would be great. You have to check on what Mom and Dad allocate for server space and how often that forces them to have to recycle the storage. I'd say buy an external HD anyway so your not strictly reliant on the cloud. I back up using various drives and print pics through shutterfly via creating printed albums. Its a few hundred for a nice size photo album but well worth it

To answer Kanga's question, if you've uploaded the pictures to an external site and simply linked to them in this thread, the links will be broken if you delete the images from the external site. Some people upload images directly to this site, however, in which case it wouldn't matter if you deleted them.
I'm in the same boat as you. I contributed to a "favorite coins" thread years ago and I've been afraid to remove the images from my web server for fear of ruining that thread in case anybody ever digs it up...

Kanga - I agree with BarryG.
My solution is to put all my images on PhotoBucket and link to them so that I don't take up storage space on the CCF servers. Photobucket is free and easy to use.

I did a test before I asked my question yesterday. The results are -- TA DAH! The way I post my images does NOT permanently fix them to this site. I deleted my 1805 entry and it stuck around for a while but just checked and it's gone now.
So the answer to my question, at least in my case, is I have to let them remain on the site I'm linking them from (iPage). They are NOT permanently downloading to here.
Actually according to iPage I have unlimited storage so the concept of "too much" doesn't apply to them. But it does cause me some grief when I try to search through what I have downloaded to them.
