Excellent 1803's everyone! Keep-em coming!

Here an 1803 LC. It has seen better days and is likely retoned, but I like the detail remaining.

Something that seems to be consistent, early copper comes on porous planchets.
I don't know if it's environmental or just poor planchets to start with.
I DO know that a lot (most?) of planchets were imported from England and porosity was a characteristic of many of them.

I'm not concerned with honest wear; that was expected.
Those coins were meant to be circulated and they surely were.

Nice coins being shown.

I'm not an expert but have read that both are true. The copper was inferior and it made the trip from England in the hull of the ships and sitting under water.

cipster that 1/2 with the clashes is amazing. I did a double take when I saw the shield lines in liberty's hair.

oih82w8, very nice spiked chin there! The color on her is beautiful.
