Sounds like a good friendship/acquaintance BD.

Aside from collecting ancients, I have a small number of silver bullion coins too, but it seems that ever since I started acquiring those, the spot price has continuously fallen. Ah well. I would love to start dealing in ancients but profit depends on building up a reputation. Till then it is hard to just break even. Really you need to live in a decent sized city to make it work too. I live in a pretty rural part of the world, so my access to coin fairs etc. is virtually non-existent. Again, ah well. I'm not about to switch a nice rural community for city life.

At least it is still possible to pick the occasional gem out of the dross on ebay!

Amen to that Val.

I don't worry too much about silver prices, I am a buyer below $20/oz. If I flip a $15 coin for $30 I basically get a free ounce of silver for my daughter, and I don't count my time as any cost because I enjoy the whole process so much.

I grew up a city boy but long for the country.

Yeh I grew up on the periphery of London. Moved to inner city areas for a while. Grew thoroughly sick of living there, despite career opportunities, so opted for a more 'human' and humble life in a small country village.

I admire your devotion to your daughter's future...and understand the importance of your username now. It's nice to get to know you a little BD.

Have coin in hand now but can't do much better for pictures with my phone.

Using my little 10x magnifier and a lot of imagination, the bigger mark looks like a person sitting and the little mark looks like three oval objects. Also, if it were modern damage that caused these marks, then why would the edges of the marks be so smooth? The only alternative answer is obviously aliens did this

Happy Thanksgiving
