Sounds to me as if Roger is BROKE other wise why would he want to pay you SOON. If he has sold the coin payment should be made IMMEDIATELY as it is your money he has not his.

I believe he can not pay right now and is why he avoided contacting you for so long.

It also suggests maybe those officers you wrote to may have give him a little call hence why he has now contacted you. It is not uncommon for officers to ring the person involved to get both sides of the story and I believe they have said it would be a good idea to rectify the problem before they have to get involved hence he contacted you, and the police gave you a story to stall for a while to allow him to rectify it, Because yes it is an offence to not return a persons property when asked.

I would email and remind him that if he has sold your item that payment is now OVER DUE and if he could kindly make immediate payment it would be appreciated.

Do not get in a word war with him stay calm and mature and keep all records , receipts emails letters phone calls times. Then if payment is not received in an a lotted time then take the appropriate action with a lawyer or the police.

You can see a lawyer for around 1/4-1/2 hr for free first consultation at most offices.

I feel for you and hope it all works out nobody needs this in there life. Good Luck. And let us all know how you go my fingers are X.

sweetap, I appreciate your advice and have been communicating with R. only in writing. Unfortunately, he hasn't paid yet and, according to the police, the only thing I could do now is open a civil dispute which is not cheap. I think such a course of action only makes sense when it's thousands of dollars that are involved, not hundreds.

The RM case has made me wonder why people sell their coins to someone who has an interest in valuing them as low as possible. These days, providing the pictures are decent, you can sell almost anything yourself online, whether on ebay, Quicksales, or Gumtree. Anyone who doesn't want to be ripped off over the value of his coins (and I suspect that the two people who chimed in on the subject of RM had had bad experiences themselves) owes it to himself to try doing so. (I recently saw a penny sold on ebay by someone who didn't know what they had. It was actually a proof, but because the images were clear enough the coin sold for a proof price. Everyone could see perfectly well what it it was.)

Perhaps on account of the very ease of selling online, the days of that kind of business model are over.

JJT, Sorry to hear of your unfortunate Deal, but I must say in future times please" Write an Agreement "with the Person you are Dealing with.
Even if it is your best mate wanting a loan, even they can screw you over! As Pedro suggested with a Small claims Approach, the Clown who adleddedly Stole Your Coin could just say who is JJT, I've never heard of him! With out some kind of original Paper Work to the Court. Sadly it is not the day's of Bonnaza when a Verbal Aggrement would/could be Law.
Hope all goes Well for you mate. Jpl..

Pedro, jpl, I understand from Tasmania Police that the only recourse open to me is to open a Civil Claims dispute, but lodging the application form alone costs over $110.

Yes, jpl, I should insisted on doing everything in writing from the beginning. After all, I was not dealing with someone I knew in person.

=sap: OK, some of the posters in this thread have gone too far. It is one thing to make specific complaints (and I assume the OP has more then enough evidence to back up his allegations, otherwise they are leaving themselves open for defamation action), but vague accusations, personal attacks and the posting of personal information are not acceptable, especially by new members who appear to have joined the forum just to dogpile onto this thread. The offending posts have been edited or deleted.

Fair enough, it was probably a bit over the top. However, from your point of view they are vague accusations, but I can support my claims. Anyway, I hope people start to understand that experience, a radio show and the letters OAM after your name dosent make you an honest person.

I saw the name and thought that looks familiar. I bought a coin of him on ebay some years ago. I became concerned too much time had past and I had not received it. Lodged a case with ebay and eventually I received it.

I don't think the guy is a crook, rather I think he is not very well organised. A bit of a ditherer that's all.

It will probably turn out OK, Jim.
