How the heck did you find that 1950 D one, just goes to show there's more than one floating around in every city... and like I've said before, there risking being dropped on the road, thrown in a fountain which the charity doesn't take them out of for a while and it corrodes from the environment, somebody might put a hole in it,, oh wait people only do that to rare hundred year old coins well still what a sad world. Do you know what you did though, you built a whole coin series of every single year from coin roll hunting, be proud and keep them a good while because there not too many sets like that out there. Good job!

David, our journeys paralled each other. Mine took 7 years approximately, and I needed the same final 2 you needed. I completed mine about 4 months ago and I found my 38s and 43d about a week apart. Between those 2 finds I got a second 39d so all I need for my second set is a 38d,38s,43d and 50d. I plan tokeep looking, upgrading and finishing my second set. Good luck to you, may we both finish our second sets!

Congrats.

Someone must have let a roll of 1938S into the wild within the last month

Well done!! I have enjoyed your journey without doing all the work.
Your occasional updates were very enjoyable and educational.
It must have been a thrill to find the 1938 and seeing the s mint
mark. Very happy for you.

David that is just great and I'm sure that you had a lot of fun along the way. You better be careful or you will have your own column in Coin World. :)

Wow ... checking back in and humbled by the kind response.

Thank You for the generous words ... it was truly a labor of love to complete this set through local bank rolls.

I enjoyed every minute of it ... and hopeful that my occasional statistical updates have been helpful to some of you.

Feeling that I need a 320,800 coin update ... the completed set statistics.

Prior update (300,000 coins) is here:

https://goccf.com/t/163828

I promised my local bank teller (many years ago) that we were going to have a pizza party if I ever finished ... now is the time!

What did you do with the higher valued duplicates, errors and varieties?

I gave most of the Top-10 duplicates away to CCF members who were searching with their children ... some members still post here.

How the heck did you find that 1950 D

It showed up early on ... at 99,200 coins and 1 -1/2 years into my search.

Lovely XF/AU example ... actually much tougher in circulated state than MS.

@ hockingzig ... I recall your journey as well ... pleased to have finally joined you.

Close with this final thought -

The CCF is the absolute best coin forum out there ... and I am pleased to have been able to share this circulation find journey with all of you.

David

Congrats, David!

It took me $5400 of nickels to fill my first folder!

Congrats.

I'm still waiting for a 39-D, despite finding two 50-Ds.

Congratulations on reaching your goal. I'm 7 nickels way from my completing first circulation set and 16 away from the second. I never considered myself that lucky before, but both sets already have 1938-S's in them. I found the second about two weeks ago in some change at work. I've always thought that the 50-D's would be the hardest ones to find in circulation.

It's been a while since I bought a box. Your milestone has sparked my interest to get a box or two for this weekend.

Holy cow, that is a lot of dedication to it. I'm only a year in and can't even get rolls over here. If I had seen this earlier on, then I may have never started. I still need most of the 40s, the 30s and a couple of 50s. As I said, I can't get many nickels so I haven't checked over that folder closely in a while. I'm going to have to break it out this weekend to take a look. I'm just not sure if I'm on board for the couple of year (up to 10 at this rate) search. I may have to cheat and ebay some coins to fill it and then continue roll hunting until I can pull them from circulation. Wow though, congrats.
