I think the Newfoundland dollar was worth 50 UK Pence, so 1 UK pound = 4.8 Newfoundland dollars.

Based on gold content, if the UK pound had exactly 113 grains of gold (this is unclear), the UK pound was worth 5650/1161 US dollars (after 1834), which was about $4.8664944.

If this is true, the Newfoundland dollar was worth approximately 1.013853 US dollars.

It's unclear what the standard for the Canadian dollar was, but 1 UK pound may have been 4.866666666... Canadian dollars, or the Canadian dollar may have been the same as the US dollar.

Getting a lot of good information on the Newfoundland $2.00

Checking today on ebay .. and there is quite a bit of premium.

World price guide list them at a price I would like to be at.

I will be keeping a eye out for them, and there is a local
coin show this weekend. I think one of these would fit right
into my Canadian type set.

One reason why you shouldn't blindly follow price guides:
VG8: $40
VF20: $80
XF40: $100
MS60: $30

WOW! I'd buy a few hundred in MS 60 and use them as pocket pieces till they wear down to XF!
