I have an idea to make this easier for everyone and should ensure a more thorugh search.
If pictures and descriptions of all the different coins that we are searching for are all pooled into one place, maybe a web page that can be printed out and refered to while searching are provided. Also, if someone could come up with a Excel spreadsheet where findings could be recorded and saved, that would put all finding in a neat oredered page.
I could probably set up a sheet if I am provided with everything that will be needed to complete the census.
Just some food for thought

I will be publishing the information needed at coppercoins.com in the near future. I've had a number of people ask for how to tell the differences between the date sizes and metal contents - that's what I will be publishing along with a writeup on how to most effectively sort a large group of coins by date.

Additionally, I have a database set up for pooling the information, and will write the code for tallying and publishing the results. It's already planned.

Thx...

I currently have less than half the volunteers I need, so anyone is welcome to join in at this point...and I appreciate all who do volunteer.

Being that I am still less than half way there, it is probably going to require that I get volunteers to do a double count or I will have to scrap the project. I hate to be this way about it, but I'd rather scrap it than not have enough coins sorted to make the results accurate enough to use for anything.

I have a couple of more places to publish the information about the project and see what kind of response I get. I am going to send a press release to Coin World and Numismatic News to see if they might print my request, and I will be publishing about the project in the SLCC journal (Society of Lincoln Cent Collectors). I send out 275+ copies of that every quarter, and these are die hard Lincoln Cent folks. I would imagine many of them will respond positively.

I need at least 300 to make this work. I currently still have fewer than 50.

Just bought a domain and started a website to be used as the central hub of this project. I also sent the body of the home page (which explains the project) to Coin World, Numismatic News, CONECA, CoinAge, and NCADD. If they help out, we will end up with plenty of volunteers, I believe.

Anyhow, the domain is https://www.thecentproject.com

I appreciate all the people who have signed up to date. Remember, though, I can ONLY accept volunteers who send me an email. This project is so large and there are so many people to account for, I would prefer to do it only one way to keep it as simple as possible.

Numismatic News is going to print with this.
CONECA is going to put it in their magazine and on their website.
Coin World might go to print with the project.

I will be talking to AP today about it. If the nation finds out about it, I might just get a thousand people to help, and that's a really good number to work with.

Chuck, I also mentioned the project and the web address in a column that should hit around the third week of November.
