@silveroid

I do like the flames flowing around the elephant actually lol. However, I am curious to see what the prices are in the end.... I am building a data base on prices before I bite.

I hadnt noticed that the Somalian elephant coins were now .9999 silver, yet another reason for stackers to buy them left and right lol

I am disappointed they basically just flipped the image of the elephant, tho I will let them slide on this since I am an elephant lover lol

@Yup:

well, bit overwhelming, but here something totally new (Elephants).
Imo, very attractive, "Enigma Fractional set", while the gold is not on the elepahant, but background.

Somalia AFRICAN WILDLIFE ELEPHANT series GOLDEN ENIGMA EDITION 375 Shillings 2015 Black Ruthenium & Gold Plated Four Silver Coin Set 3.75 oz

**Very good and quality looking item
**Production 2000 units
**The biggest coin is 2oz (and not 1oz)
** Luxury box

https://firstcoincompany.com/S/soma...n-set-375-oz

Added the Price:
yes, expensive - USD 349....

It so different from "do it by yourself" colorized stuff.

I hope the quality increased for the "flames" coins

don't know...this item (set, I mean) looks much more solid and "factory made", rather than these 500-1000 units production Burning modifications.

When this thread was first started a little over a year ago, several posters were very high on the 2014 Black Ruthenium Burning Maple Leaf coin and believed its market value had a very high long-term ceiling. Some of us cautioned otherwise, but its supporters were quite adamant. For a stretch, the conversation ceased being a pleasant exchange of opinions. (Take a minute or two to re-read the thread from the beginning and refresh yourself with the discussion.)

At one point, I posted that it was too early to tell how the market would ultimately view these coins and that, at the time, no one could be "right" or "wrong" about their future market value as the future was yet to be. I suggested that we return to the thread on May 1, 2016 to assess where things stood.

Well, I'm recalling it a bit later than planned, but based on the most recent "Sold" prices on ebay, I think a clear picture has emerged. The average selling price is lower than the original direct-purchase price back in March 2015, despite the fact the piece had a "mintage" (really a production run) of just 500.

Here are the prices of the 20 most recent sold pieces on ebay (all USD):

May-25: $61.00
May-22: $81.00
May-20: $69.99
May-08: $55.90
May-01: $81.00
Apr-21: $66.00
Apr-17: $76.00
Apr-12: $82.51
Apr-10: $127.50
Apr-07: $89.00
Apr-04: $129.95 [Buy it Now]
Apr-03: $91.00
Mar-30: $89.90
Mar-29: $89.99
Mar-28: $89.77
Mar-27: $97.00
Mar-21: $94.00
Mar-19: $100.00
Mar-17: $102.50
Mar-14: $102.50

The average selling price for these coins is $88.83 and the trend line is definitely down.

It's hard to argue with actual data!

I again caution those who choose to collect these privately-enhanced coins - collect them for enjoyment and because you like them (terrific reasons to collect something!) but not for their mid- or long-term investment potential.

Right on, also in Canada maybe regarded as a counterfeit enhancement.

Thanks, Commems for remembering and doing the research.

So whoever purchased these and sold year ago, for sure enjoyed the profit. Or people who bought for "issue" of CAD 90 and still enjoy the design - have nothing to loose.

Northerncoins made good correction - this applicable for all NCLT (price wise), but commemorative NCLT coins measured not only by mintage and resell value.

9 years later....

I do not follow this up, and haven't checked the ebay, but saw one on sale at The Coin Shoppe:

https://thecoinshoppe.ca/product/bu...-toned-coin/

CAD 85, toned

Most likely the shop paid to former owner bullion price or slightly above.

My thoughts on these pieces hasn't changed:

Collect 'em if you like 'em, pay as close to spot as you can and don't expect a big ROI.

I like this thread. This is another good reason that why we should only buy coins produced from reputable mint. This is another similar story: http://goccf.com/t/423743&whichpage=1 . The design is really good, topic is good, even some numismatic value for the people come from the island. But the mint is not reputable, made someone spend more than a thousand USD to buy this 10s years ago, and worth for only around 300 USD today, since the claimed gold foil is not actually gold foil but gold plated paper foil.
