Silverworld, This would be a bad approach in my region. "Rules" as stated by a 1-800 manager often won't match the reality of the procedures at the individual branches. Matter of fact, the regional and national branches I use are nothing if not different. And if you think stating 'policy' from a 1-800 manager will keep them 'in check', think again. If the teller/vault manager doesn't want to order coin for you, you can bet she'll cause more trouble than it's worth, regardless of a stated policy.

Your approach works for you. I'm sure it will work for some others. But it doesn't work everywhere. And just because it works doesn't mean it's ideal. I think it's important not to steer newbie's in the wrong direction. I would advise CRHers to stay away from the various "formula" type approaches. Don't start out with emails and phone calls and "what is your policy" questions. Go out and have a face to face with the real decision makers. Build relationships. Start small. Ask appropriate questions at appropriate times. Don't argue about policy. Just move along and come back in six months. Most importantly, don't assume that various branches will reflect the same policies (good or bad).

Start with the personalized/honey approach. If you're unable to find enough opportunities, you can always switch to a robotic/hammer/sterile approach. Remember its easy to go from honey to hammer. Not so easy to go from hammer to honey.

The rules are the same if you talk with a 1-800 Manger that's just the way it is. They will have the answers. Its just that easy.

Lets not go over the same stuff I have wrote now 5 times. This is for Newbies to get things worked out with those that can help the most the first time. Thanks

What is a 1-800 manager? Never heard of it? Can someone enlighten me?

I CRH by the bags worth and have been doing so for years. I have always just talked to tellers. Have had alot of luck that way. Just treat them politely and they are usually more than happy to help. If they don't, move on to another bank or branch.

yep, my tellers give me the coin every week on a routine from face to face building, and starting slow. I walk in and get my cents, nickels, and dimes, ready for me every week. And I get called when my halves come in on auto order too. I avoid the bad banks. One lady was so over the top mean/bad service, it was ridiculous. I just dont go there at all.

I guess it depends on how many banks you have access to. Try them all, have 5 or 6 accounts if you can. Ive used chocolate sparingly at the good banks too. Friday choco-surprise!

looks to me like most here have a point. if the teller is okay then fine. if you want a particular bank like maybe one close to home, and the teller is not okay- teller has to abide by bank rules. in my case, teller is okay, all of them at my bank, treated me right for many months. I appreciate them too, so much I started bringing them donuts- but not to try to buy them, just because.

I bring them money or not,I am not a Candy and Sweet Truck. I do business, bank rules are the name of the game. Get bank rules easy by phone calls.

That disorderly Teller would have been stopped with the quickness if she was in front of me why Bank Rules, rule that simple. Know the rules get all you want if you like the rules, that simple. The Bank/Tellers can buy me Candy and Sweets.

Most branches you can google and get direct #, and for some reason rings to teller- maybe the yelp reviews had that direct for some reason.. When I was just starting out I called a few branches before finding one that seems to always have a box of halves on hand. I predominitely use BOA and most will sell/borrow/withdraw (whatever you call it) a box of pennies or nickels without question, some will ask if it's for business and rarely they'll say they are running low and offer x amount or another denomination. I've found the odd looks disappear when you don't go in too often. During "peak" CRH season for me 2-3 boxes a week I tried not to go to same branch more than once a week.
