The crown equivalent of the Kingdom of France was the ecu d'argent. ecu, scudo and escudo all derive from the Latin scutum, meaning shield. The silver ecu was minted from 1641 to the French Revolution when it was replaced by the 5 franc.

No thalers yet? We must include the thaler because it is the progenitor of the crown, ecu, scudo, ducaton, 8 reales, daalder and dollar. The earliest was the Joachimsthaler, first minted in 1518 near St. Joachim's Valley -- from whence the name comes from as "thal" meant valley in German -- in what is now the Czech Republic. Its consistent size, weight and fineness of silver content was a boon to trade and set the standard for silver coins for 400 years. Mine is a much later issue thaler, from the Swiss canton of Bern, shortly before Napoleon forced the collapse of the Swiss Confederation.

I have an example of the restrike of the 1486 Guldiner (Guldengroschen) -- which was the first large size silver coin minted in substantial quantities after which all other large "crown-sized" silver coins followed. It was issued from the Hall Mint by Sigismund. The Joachimsthaler was minted only out of demand because the popularity of the Guldengroschen had spread across much of central Europe in the 30 years prior.

It's nice to see some 8 reales already posted -- they are a prominent world crown issue. This 8 reales is a scarce, single year variety from early in the reign of Charles III, minted in Madrid, Spain. Charles modified the Spanish coat of Arms in 1761, most notably to include the arms of the Italian houses of Farnese and Medici.

The silver crown of Russia was the Rouble. This features the youthful portrait of Yekaterina Alexeevna / Catherine II (the Great) from 1764, minted in St. Petersburg.

Thanks for the compliment, NumisRob. Let's keep the crowns coming! The silver crown of Sweden was the riksdaler, first minted in 1604 and the basis of Swedish currency from 1777 - 1873, when it was replaced by the krona. This riksdaler is from the reign of Gustav III. In the year this coin was minted, 1782, Gustav III became the first neutral head of state to recognize the United States of America.
