Ok my issue was the surface looked "pebbly" for want of a better term. I see he has a great ebay rating. But lots of raw high end coins makes me suspicious. I don't mean to impugn any ones rep ( but I guess I did just by asking). This is a tough coin I have been looking for and I thought the collective group knowledge here could help. It did. But the best info I received was ask for it to be graded with a down payment. that's an awesome idea.

I think it's gorgeous and I'd buy it. Then again, I'm not in the market, so that's easy for me to say!

All that said, to explain coinfrog's answer, what was being said was that in theory, you could purchase the coin, receive, send it out for grading expedited and if it came back "genuine" or non-gradable for some reason, you would barely have time to return it.

That said, I have a feeling that if you are a serious buyer and voiced your concern to the seller, purchased the coin (avoiding PayPal as this seller prefers, et cetera), you could come to an understanding and if the coin came back non-graded past their return window, you could certainly return it minus a restocking fee. Perhaps you could work something out that wouldn't be 10%, too... You'd have to ask the seller.

I've thought about doing this before on coins and or sellers I wasn't quite sure about, but in the end I've always just passed and tried to find a coin I wasn't unsure about.

The funny thing about coin collecting... so many times you think you've missed the deal of a lifetime and a week later there right in front of you is something better...

But anyway, if you had your heart set on THIS coin but were genuinely concerned, I can't imagine the seller having a problem with extending the return window.

The fact that more of these coins aren't OUT of plastic is a pity to me. Beautiful piece, in my opinion.

Not just coins, either...

Cars, investments, houses/apartments, girlfriends/boyfriends...

Rushing into a decision is USUALLY not a good idea. (Notice I said, usually!!)
