I almost never spend coins, I Just bring it home and sort it out. When I am in Canada (couple times a year usually) I might spend some of the coins but they always get well searched before I do...
I have a small dish I keep on my desk next to the computer. When I go through my change at the end of the day I toss any "keepers" in there. When it gets full I sort and put them away. For cents that I have saved I have a couple hundred-tube boxes for US and another box for Canada that I use. For Wheats from 41 and newer I have a tube for each year and separate tubes for certain year's "D" and "S" coins. For 60's and 70's cents I have tubes for each decade and add new ones as they get filled. 80 and 81 have separate tubes, 82 has 4 (Copper and Zinc, "P" and "D"). Eventually when I am bored enough to do the work I will separate the 60's and 70's cents into individual years.
For Canadian cents I have separate tubes for each year and for the zinc/copper/steel varieties when they have more than one for that year.
For US Nickels of the 40's and 50's I have separate tubes for each year/mintmark. I also have tubes for US Bicentennial quarters.
All other "Keepers", including halves that I have saved, any
SBA or
Ike dollars, pre-40 nickels and cents, Canadian 5C and up as well as foreign coins get put into 2x2's and in binders.
